Fifty years of one saga
Rocky came out in 1976. Five sequels followed to 2006, then the Creed trilogy from 2015, in which the character becomes trainer to Apollo Creed's son — nine films in all.
Few fictional characters have run half a century with the same actor throughout. That is why the single word ROCKY, with no face and no glove, is understood anywhere. The worn lettering says the same thing: this is not a new film, it is a name that has been around.
The artwork
ROCKY in five very wide serif capitals, filling the width of the chest. The strokes are deliberately flaked, like ink worn down by washing.
The O is not a solid letter: it holds a figure with both arms raised, the victory pose from the top of the steps. It is the only drawn element in the print. No other text, no date. Monochrome — light on dark colours, dark on light ones. Plain back.
