Skipping rope spare cable

The essentials: a complete speed rope set. A rope built on knurled metal handles of 14 cm / 5.5 in, a PVC-coated braided steel cable of 3 m / 9 ft 10 in and ball bearings, plus a complete spare cable, its clamping screws, its protective end caps and a storage bag. Four colourways: silver, blue, red and black, green and black. €29, free standard shipping.
On a speed rope, the handle never breaks. The cable does. It is the cable that scrapes the floor on every pass, the cable whose coating eventually splits, the cable that gives out after a few hundred thousand rotations. And on the day it goes, you throw away a rope whose bearings were still perfect.
This set settles that at the point of purchase: the replacement cable is already in the box, with its screws and end caps. You double the life of the rope without ordering anything.
What is in the set
- The complete rope, assembled and ready to set.
- A second steel cable, spare.
- Two additional clamping screws.
- Two protective end caps for the cut end of the cable.
- A drawstring storage bag.
The screws matter as much as the cable: that is the part people lose on a gym floor while loosening to adjust the length, and without it the rope cannot be used.
Knurled metal handles of 14 cm
The handles are metal, 14 cm / 5.5 in long, with cross knurling across the whole grip. That texture holds the palm without any need to squeeze, which saves the forearm on long sets and lets the wrist drive the rotation.
The end caps house the ball bearings: the cable turns through 360° without dragging the handle, so it builds up no twist. That is the condition for holding a set of double unders without the rope kinking.
A 3 m cable, and a second in reserve
Each cable is supplied at 3 metres / 9 ft 10 in, a length that covers every adult build, including over 1.90 m / 6 ft 3 in. The rope therefore arrives deliberately too long: you bring it to your measure with the clamping screws, then cut the surplus.
That is exactly where the second cable earns its place. Cutting to the right length first time takes practice, and a cut that is too short is final. Here, a mistake does not write off the rope.

The right floor for a coated steel cable. Aim for wood, a training mat, tatami or a rubber surface: these preserve the coating and give a more consistent rebound. Tarmac and bare concrete are abrasive and attack the coating.

Frequently asked questions
What exactly is in the set?
The assembled rope, a second steel cable, 2 clamping screws, 2 protective end caps and a drawstring bag. Everything needed to rebuild the rope once it has worn.
Why is a spare cable useful?
Because the cable is what wears out. It scrapes the floor on every pass, its coating splits, and it gives out after a few hundred thousand rotations — while the bearings are still fine. With the spare in the box, the rope is rebuilt rather than replaced.
How do you replace the cable?
Loosen the clamping screw at each end, pull out the old cable, thread the new one, set the length, tighten and fit the end caps over the cut. No tools beyond the screws supplied.
What are the dimensions of this rope?
A cable of 3 m / 9 ft 10 in and handles of 14 cm / 5.5 in. The 3 m covers every adult build, including over 1.90 m / 6 ft 3 in — the rope is meant to be cut down to your measure.
Can you do double unders with it?
Yes. The ball bearings let the cable turn through 360° without dragging the handle, so it does not build up twist between sets.
Which floor should you skip on?
Wood, a training mat, tatami or a rubber surface. These preserve the coating and give a more consistent rebound. Tarmac and bare concrete are abrasive — and that is precisely what wears a cable out.
