In public health campaigns the boxing glove has become the shorthand for the word fight: it no longer belongs only to the ring but to anything you get through on your feet. This rug takes that further by adding a ribbon, the device charities have used since the 1990s to make a cause recognisable at a glance. Here the ribbon is turquoise, and that colour stands for one specific disease.
What is printed, word for word
The glove sits at the centre in flat turquoise on black. Inside and around it, four lines of text read from top to bottom: FIGHT, then HER FIGHT IS MY FIGHT, then NO ONE FIGHT ALONE, and finally, in small type below the design, POLYCYSTIC KIDNEY DISEASE AWARENESS. The turquoise ribbon is drawn into the lace of the glove.

Polycystic kidney disease, what the ribbon stands for
Polycystic kidney disease is a genetic kidney disorder: fluid-filled cysts appear along the renal tubules, grow, and eventually destroy kidney tissue. The French patient association Polykystose France puts it at more than one person in a thousand — 80,000 to 100,000 people in France and more than 12 million worldwide — with end-stage renal failure arriving on average between 50 and 60 years of age. It is one of the most common genetic diseases and one of the least known to the public.
Three sizes, from a doorway to a sink front
The three sizes cover walk-through use, which is what this rug is made for. The 40 x 60 cm / 16 x 24 in fits in front of a bathroom door or a kitchen sink. The 50 x 80 cm / 20 x 31 in takes both feet side by side coming out of the shower. The 60 x 90 cm / 24 x 35 in dresses a room threshold or a wide landing, and is the size where the glove is printed at its largest scale.
The usual rule is to take a mat slightly wider than the door opening it sits in front of: 40 x 60 for an 80 cm / 31 in door, 50 x 80 for a standard front door, 60 x 90 for a double door. Both feet should fit on it without spilling over.
