On 25 February 1964 in Miami Beach, Cassius Clay, twenty-two years old and a seven-to-one underdog, made Sonny Liston quit on his stool before the seventh. The next day he announced his conversion and took the name Muhammad Ali.
This cap puts him in the Jumpman pose, the Air Jordan logo: arm raised, legs split — except that the hand here holds a boxing glove rather than a ball, and a championship belt sits at the waist.
What the motif gives you
The print runs about 5 cm / 2 in tall in full colour: red glove raised where the ball would be, second glove hanging, white trunks, gold championship belt, and ALI in small red capitals below the legs. The reading works first through the posture, which everyone recognises. At three metres you place the pose; at one metre you see that the hand is holding a glove.
Cut and adjustment
Pre-formed curved peak, soft 9 cm / 3.5 in crown, rear adjuster strap. The measurement table shared by every curved peak cap sits on the Canelo washed cap listing.

The motif is drawn in flat colour rather than photographically: fewer tones to preserve, so less visible change after repeated washing.
Worth a look
The Muhammad Ali cap sets photographs inside the letters of his name. See also the Boxing Club cap and the Rocky Balboa cap. Everything sits in the boxing caps collection.
Frequently asked questions
When did Muhammad Ali change his name?
On 26 February 1964, the day after beating Sonny Liston to become world heavyweight champion at twenty-two. Until then he was Cassius Clay.
What is the Jumpman pose?
The Air Jordan logo, drawn by Nike in 1985 from a photograph of Michael Jordan mid-air with his legs split and a ball in his raised hand. The original image, shot by Jacobus Rentmeester for Life in 1984, was a ballet move rather than a dunk.
What size boxing cap should I get?
The rear strap covers 55–59 cm / 21.7–23.2 in. Measure with a tape about 1 cm / 0.4 in above the eyebrows, around the back of the skull over the bump, without pulling tight.
Which colourway should I pick?
The figure is printed in colour, so it reads best on the light grounds: sand, white and yellow. On black and navy it is the red ALI lettering that carries the reading.
How do you wash a printed cap?
By hand, lukewarm water at 30 °C / 86 °F maximum, mild soap, without scrubbing the motif or using a chlorine product. Dry in the shade over something round to hold the crown shape.
All eight colourways sit under the same listing: pick yours from the drop-down above.
