A human hand has twenty-seven bones, nineteen of them in the fingers and metacarpals. It is the most fragile part of the body that a boxer uses as a weapon, and it is why hand wraps exist: they bind the wrist and the metacarpals together so the whole structure absorbs the impact as one block rather than bone by bone.
This cap puts that clenched fist at the centre of the front panel, in relief, with the fingers and knuckles drawn.
What the relief gives you
The fist is an appliqué: a piece of fabric cut to shape and sewn onto the front panel, with the outline and the folds of the fingers embroidered over it in tight satin stitch. You can feel the relief under a finger. The motif takes up close to half the front panel and shows in profile. The rest of the crown is plain.

The appliqué is fabric rather than a moulded piece: it gives under pressure and comes back, which means the cap survives a kit bag without being permanently crushed.
Worth a look
The gold crown cap and the VIP gold cap work metal appliqués instead of fabric. For a boxing motif laid flat, see the Boxing Club cap. Everything sits in the boxing caps collection.
Frequently asked questions
Why do boxers wrap their hands?
Because a hand holds twenty-seven bones, nineteen of them in the fingers and metacarpals alone. Wraps bind the wrist and the hand together so the impact is taken by the whole structure rather than by a single bone. They also protect the skin over the knuckles.
What size cap should I get?
The snap closure covers 55–59 cm / 21.7–23.2 in. Measure with a tape about 1 cm / 0.4 in above the eyebrows, around the back of the skull over the bump, without pulling tight.
Which version should I pick?
The white version gives maximum contrast and reads from several metres. The black version shows through relief alone, which makes it the quieter of the two while keeping the full volume of the motif.
How do you wash a cap with a raised appliqué?
By hand, at 30 °C / 86 °F maximum, mild soap, no bleach and no tumble dryer, as the care label on the model states. Wipe the appliqué with a damp cloth rather than scrubbing it, and dry in the open air over something round.
Will the appliqué peel off over time?
It is sewn, not glued. The fabric shape is stitched down and its edge is closed by the embroidery running around it, so there is no adhesive layer to fail. That is what separates a sewn appliqué from a heat-pressed patch.
