The essentials: a pair of converters that let you close and open lace-up boxing gloves on your own, with nobody's help. The strap folds over the lacing and locks with its built-in hook-and-loop: a few seconds per hand, and the tension stays adjustable to the millimetre. 50 cm / 20 in long, 3.5 cm / 1.4 in wide, strong and flexible. Black, Esprit Boxe design. Free standard shipping.
Lace-up gloves give the best wrist hold there is — which is why they remain the competition standard. They have one drawback, and it is a large one: you need someone to tighten them. So a lot of boxers own a good lace-up pair that only comes out on the days a partner is around, and train in velcro the rest of the time.
This converter fits over the laces and replaces them with a hook-and-loop closure: a strap 50 cm / 20 in long by 3.5 cm / 1.4 in wide, sold as a pair. You keep the lacing and its hold; you gain the autonomy of a strap.
How it works
- Put the glove on and tighten the laces as usual, then tie them off loosely.
- Fold the strap over the lacing, taking it around the wrist.
- Pull tight, then close the hook-and-loop: the lacing is covered, flattened and held.
Removal follows the same path in reverse, one-handed, by pulling on the strap. Its 50 cm / 20 in of length leaves enough material to go around the wrist and set the tension exactly where you want it, on a thin glove or a thick one.
A second benefit: the strap covers the knots. No more lace ends hanging loose, coming undone mid-round or brushing a partner's face in close.

Frequently asked questions
What is a lace converter for boxing gloves?
It is a strap that folds over the lacing of a lace-up glove and locks with hook-and-loop, so you can close and open the glove on your own instead of needing a partner or a coach.
Is it compatible with all lace-up gloves?
It fits lace-up boxing and Muay Thai gloves. At 50 cm / 20 in long and 3.5 cm / 1.4 in wide, there is enough material to go around the wrist on a thin glove or a thick one.
Is the hold as good as laces tightened by a partner?
The hold comes from the lacing itself, which you tighten as usual before folding the strap over. The converter covers and flattens the lacing and adds its own tension around the wrist.
How many lace converters are in the set?
One pair — one for each hand.
Laces or velcro: what are laces actually worth?
Lacing wraps the wrist along its whole length and lines it up with the forearm, which is why sanctioned bouts are fought in laces. A strap is faster and lets you gear up alone — this converter gives you both.
Do you still need hand wraps underneath?
Yes. A converter changes how the glove closes, not what protects the hand. Wraps hold the small bones of the hand and the wrist, and they should be worn under any glove.
