The essentials: the brand takes its name from a 1909 belt, the oldest in British boxing — not from its founder. Lion emblem, arched LONSDALE, LONDON, across a third of the chest width. Every shade comes with either a white or a black logo, so you choose the contrast independently of the colour. 16 combinations, 6 sizes from S to XXXL, European cut — take your usual size. €39, free standard shipping.
The name came from a belt, not from the founder
Bernard Hart, a professional boxer turned equipment maker, started the brand in London in 1960. He did not put his own name on it: he asked the seventh Earl of Lonsdale for permission to use the family name instead.
Why that name? Because in 1909, Hugh Lowther, fifth Earl of Lonsdale, had created the Lonsdale Belt — the oldest championship belt in British boxing, still awarded today. Win it outright three times and you keep it for life.
Lonsdale went on to supply Muhammad Ali from 1963, then Mike Tyson in the 1980s. The lion has been on the logo from the start.
The artwork
The lion, in profile with a forepaw raised, sits at the top of the block. Below it, LONSDALE in heavy serif capitals arched, the curve leaving a gap where LONDON is set in small type.
The print is single-colour and switches with the body: white logo on the deep shades, black logo on the light ones. The block covers about a third of the chest width. Plain back.
The garment
Lined hood with a drawcord, front kangaroo pocket, ribbed cuffs and hem. Straight cut, set-in long sleeves.

Our advice: sixteen combinations is not sixteen colours: each body shade comes with either a white logo or a black one. The contrast changes everything — white to make it carry across a room, black for something quieter. The Lonsdale London t-shirt carries the same emblem.
