Eight limbs, and a prisoner of war
Muay thai is called the art of eight limbs because it allows eight striking surfaces: two fists, two elbows, two knees, two shins. Boxing uses two, kickboxing four.
Thai tradition dates its recognition to 1774: Nai Khanom Tom, a fighter captured at the fall of Ayutthaya, is said to have been set against Burmese fighters in front of their king and to have beaten them one after another, and was freed for it. Thailand marks 17 March as national Muay Thai Day in his name.
The words FLYING KNEE printed at the foot of the design name the technique the sport is known for: both hands to the neck, then the knee driven into the body on the jump.
The artwork
Printed over the whole surface, front and back. The fighter is drawn in white line, leg raised head high, laid over MUAY THAI in red capitals running the height of the body.
Above, CHINA POWER in large white capitals and THE ART OF FIGHTING in red, with a small red flag stitched to the shoulder. Below, Thai script and then FLYING KNEE.
The hood is lined in open red mesh, and red binding runs round the armholes, the pockets and the hem.
The garment
Sleeveless, wide armholes bound in red, full-length zip, hood lined in open red mesh. The shape clears the shoulder and arm completely — this is the warm-up piece of a striking gym, the one you keep on through rope work and shadow.

Our advice: open armholes leave the shoulder entirely free, so this is the shape to choose if you keep the garment on during the warm-up rather than only before it. For a conventional hoodie, see the Kick Boxing hoodie.

Frequently asked questions
Why is Muay Thai called the art of eight limbs?
Because it allows eight striking surfaces: the two fists, the two elbows, the two knees and the two shins. Boxing uses two, kickboxing four.
What is a flying knee in Muay Thai?
Both hands to the neck, then the knee driven into the body or the head on the jump. The words appear at the foot of this design; the fighter drawn above them is caught with the leg raised head high.
Who was Nai Khanom Tom?
A Thai fighter captured at the fall of Ayutthaya in the eighteenth century who, by tradition, beat a succession of Burmese fighters in front of their king in 1774 and was freed for it. Thailand keeps 17 March as national Muay Thai Day in his name.
Does this hoodie really have no sleeves?
Correct, it is a sleeveless model with wide bound armholes, a hood and a full zip. It clears the shoulder completely, which is what lets you keep it on through the warm-up.
What size should I order?
European cut — take your usual size, with no conversion to apply. Six sizes, S to XXXL (XXXL is the same as 3XL).
How do you wash an all-over print?
Machine wash at 30 °C / 86 °F inside out, no tumble dryer, no iron on the print. The mesh hood lining dries faster than the body, so leave it open on the line.
