One hundred and eighty-eight euros a week
Before the UFC, McGregor was a plumbing apprentice in Dublin. He left the site to train full time and lived on the Irish unemployment allowance, 188 euros a week — a figure he repeated often enough for it to become a line of his own.
He collected the last payment a few days before his first UFC fight, in April 2013 in Stockholm. Eighteen months later he was filling twenty thousand seat arenas; by 2017 he was among the highest paid athletes in the world. The gap between those two numbers explains much of the Irish public's attachment to him.

The outstretched arms touch both edges of the frame: the composition loses its effect entirely if one side is masked by furniture.
