Why a fight glove is laced and not fastened with velcro
The gloves here close with laces, and that is not a decorative detail: in professional bouts, lacing is mandatory. Velcro, kept for training, loosens with use and can be readjusted by the boxer himself — which is ruled out during a fight.
The lacing is done by the cornerman and then sealed with tape, and the whole thing is checked and initialled by an inspector before the fighter walks out. That procedure is what made the split glove at Wembley in 1963 so famous. A laced glove also holds the wrist better: the tension spreads along the whole cuff rather than sitting on one strap.

The leather is painted with its folds, its highlights and its worn patches; the seams and the lace eyelets are drawn one by one.

Worn leather reads close up
The two red gloves separate from the cream ground at 20 × 30 cm / 8 × 12 in already. What sets this canvas apart from the others — the folds, the faded patches, the eyelets drawn one by one — only appears from 50 × 70 cm / 20 × 28 in, and from a sofa at 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in. Is there any text or brand on this canvas?
None. No logo, no lettering, no signature — only the leather, the laces and the eyelets. It is the plainest of the glove canvases in that respect.
What wall colour does this canvas work against?
A warm wall — beige, brick, dark wood — where the cream ground carries on the material already in the room. On white plaster it works too, but add a frame so the pale ground has an edge.
Does the canvas come with a frame?

How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
