A glove is chosen by body weight, not by hand size
Unlike a shoe, a boxing glove has no size: the number on it is a weight in ounces. The choice is made on the boxer's build and on the use, not on the hand.
The rule of thumb used in gyms: 10 oz up to 60 kg / 132 lb, 12 oz from 60 to 75 kg / 132 to 165 lb, 14 oz from 75 to 90 kg / 165 to 198 lb, 16 oz beyond — and one step up as soon as there is a partner in front, to protect him. A wide hand fits a 12 oz without trouble; it is the weight of the man throwing that decides. What build really changes is the length of the cuff: the thicker the wrist, the longer the cuff needs to be.
What you see
Portrait format, graded charcoal grey ground, dark at the top and at the edges. Two black gloves hang from two separate metal chains running out of the top of the frame, cuffs up, one higher than the other. The leather is matt and evenly black, revealed only by pale highlights along the edges and the seams. The chain links catch the light one by one.
No colour. The cuffs carry lettering embossed into the leather, the same shade as the rest of the glove, visible only by its relief. From 3 m / 10 ft you read two dark volumes in low light; from 1 m / 3 ft the seams and the links appear.

Worth knowing: a tone on tone grey and black needs a light wall for the subject to separate: on a dark wall the gloves disappear into the ground. It is on the other hand the quietest canvas of the family, the one that hangs in an office or a living room without asserting anything. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
A tone on tone that has to be earned
Everything rests on the highlights: the black leather is revealed only by light running along the edges and the seams. Below 40 × 60 cm / 16 × 24 in the two gloves read as one dark mass; from 70 × 100 cm / 28 × 39 in the seams, the chain links and the embossed lettering separate one by one. Is there any colour on this canvas?
None: it is entirely black, grey and white. The only relief is the embossed lettering on the cuffs, in the same shade as the leather, revealed by light rather than by colour. That is what makes it the simplest piece to place in a room that is already decorated.
What wall colour does this canvas work against?
A light wall — white, pale grey, light wood — so the dark subject separates. On a dark wall the gloves merge into the ground and the composition disappears.
Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
