The essentials: a street art portrait of Muhammad Ali — chest-up crop, mouth wide open, gold chain with a dollar pendant, set against a wall of graffiti. His full line is painted in yellow capitals across three lines at the foot of the canvas. Portrait format, 10 sizes from 20 × 30 cm / 8 × 12 in to 110 × 160 cm / 43 × 63 in. Frame sold separately. From €19 to €109 depending on size, free standard shipping.
He said he was the greatest before he knew he was
The line painted along the bottom of this canvas is longer than the one usually quoted: he was the greatest, and he said so before he knew he was. The second half is the part that matters.
It points back to the build-up to 25 February 1964 in Miami Beach. Cassius Clay, 22, was about to fight Sonny Liston for the world title. He told anyone who would listen that he was the greatest, while the bookmakers had him at seven to one against and almost every reporter at ringside picked Liston. Liston stayed on his stool before the seventh round.
What you see
Portrait format, edge to edge coverage. Ali holds the centre, cropped from the waist up, leaning forward, mouth wide open, fists drawn in. He wears a gold chain with a dollar pendant and a pink heart radiates from his chest. A red glove appears at the right edge.
Around him, a dense collage: the American flag, a yellow banner under a red crown, a blue #1, a white dove carrying an olive branch, and the words legend, icon and bank on painted cartouches, the whole surface scratched over with white chalk lines. Along the bottom, the quote in yellow capitals across three lines.
From 3 m / 10 ft you read a shouting face inside a mass of colour; from 1 m / 3 ft each motif separates out.

Worth knowing: this is the most saturated canvas of the Muhammad Ali range, and it sets the tone of a room on its own. The quote along the bottom reads from 40 × 60 cm / 16 × 24 in upwards; below that it reads as a band of yellow. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
The size at which the quote can be read
Three lines of capitals occupy the bottom quarter of the canvas. They read from 2 m / 6 ft away at 40 × 60 cm / 16 × 24 in, and from across a room at 70 × 100 cm / 28 × 39 in. The size chart by wall type covers the other placements room by room.

Frequently asked questions
What does the quote on this canvas say?
Three lines of yellow capitals: he is the greatest, and he said so before he knew he was. The line goes back to the build-up to 25 February 1964 against Sonny Liston, when the bookmakers had Clay at seven to one against.
What size canvas should I hang above a sofa?
The working rule is about two thirds of the width of the furniture below it, centred 145 cm / 57 in from the floor. Over a 200 cm / 79 in three-seater, that means 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in; over a two-seater, 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in; in a hallway, 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in. The full size chart by wall type is on the Ali vs Liston 1965 page.
Why is there a dove on a boxing canvas?
The dove with an olive branch points to 28 April 1967, the day Ali refused induction into the army. He lost his title and his licence and spent three and a half years out of the ring before the Supreme Court overturned his conviction on 28 June 1971, unanimously among the eight justices who sat. The motif has followed his portraits ever since.
What do the symbols around the boxer mean?
A collage of the things attached to his name: the American flag of the Rome 1960 gold medal, a red crown for the title, a #1, the dove, and the words legend, icon and bank on cartouches. White chalk lines run across all of it.
Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
