The essentials: three versions of the same marking: black long knit with a gold mark, white long knit with a black mark, and a black ribbed turn-up beanie with the gold mark printed on the cuff. Marking ESPRIT BOXE — FOR THE GLORY and the Esprit Boxe mark. One size in all three. €29, free delivery.
Why a beanie has no size guide
A cap adjusts: notches, a strap, hook-and-loop. A beanie does not — and yet nobody asks for a head circumference before buying one. The reason is the knit: it stretches both ways, in width as well as in height, where a woven fabric only gives in one direction.
That is what lets a single beanie cover the spread of head sizes across an adult population. The useful reference is therefore not a size but a height: that is what decides whether the beanie stops above the ears or covers them entirely.
The real measurements of the two builds
These measurements are taken flat from the collection's product sheets. Since a beanie stretches, the flat width doubles to give the flat circumference, which the knit then opens out as it is put on.
| Measurement | Long knit | Turn-up rib |
|---|---|---|
| Height, flat | 28 cm / 11 in | 28.5 cm / 11.2 in, cuff unfolded |
| Height, worn | 28 cm / 11 in, falling on the nape | 21.5 cm / 8.5 in, cuff folded |
| Width, flat | 26.8 cm / 10.6 in | 21 cm / 8.3 in |
| Height adjustment | Position on the skull | Number of cuff turns |
| Ear coverage | Full, with volume behind | Double thickness around the band |
| Crown | Star seam | Closed knit |
What is printed on the beanie
On both long knit versions, the marking sits on the side of the beanie, running vertically: the Esprit Boxe mark to the left, a vertical rule, then ESPRIT BOXE in capitals with FOR THE GLORY beneath. Gold on the black model, black on the white one.
The rib version carries exactly the same block in gold, but set flat on the cuff — readable from the front rather than in profile. At three metres you can make out the mark and the words ESPRIT BOXE; the FOR THE GLORY line reads at one metre.

The tip: if you are torn between the two builds, start from the use: the turn-up rib for outdoors in winter, because the fold doubles the thickness over the ears; the long knit for the gym and town, because it does not press on the temples and folds into a bag pocket.

Frequently asked questions
Which beanie size should I choose?
A beanie is not chosen by size but by height: the knit stretches both ways and absorbs the difference in head circumference. All three versions are one size. The reference is visual: the beanie should cover the top of the ears without pressing on the temples.
What is the difference between a long beanie and a turn-up beanie?
The long beanie, also called a slouchy, is 28 cm / 11 in tall and falls on the nape, with no cuff. The turn-up rib folds back and measures 21.5 cm / 8.5 in once folded, with a double thickness of knit around the ears.
Does this beanie suit women as well as men?
Yes, all three versions are unisex. The long knit is worn loose at the back or pulled up on the forehead; the rib is adjusted by the number of cuff turns, each one changing the height by 2 to 3 cm / 0.8 to 1.2 in.
What does FOR THE GLORY mean on the marking?
It is the signature of the brand, printed under the name. It goes with the Esprit Boxe mark, whose figure raises its arms: the winner's gesture at the moment of the announcement, not the guard.
How do you wash a beanie without stretching it?
Hand wash cold, no spin, then dry flat. A beanie hung up or put through a tumble dryer stretches out and loses the hold that keeps it over the ears. No iron on the marking.
Can it be worn under a helmet or a hood?
The long knit goes under a hood without bulk. Under a cycling helmet, go for the long version worn taut: the cuff of the rib version adds two thicknesses around the head.
