Fairtex, and a leg that runs longer than most
Fairtex is one of the oldest and most respected names in Muay Thai. Founded in Thailand, it has kitted out training camps and professional fighters for decades, and it is one of the few brands a practitioner anywhere in the world recognises on sight.
What sets the shorts apart is less the badge than a cut decision: where many makers shorten the leg as far as it will go, Fairtex runs longer than the average Thai short. Fighters know this and look for it, particularly anyone who finds the very short cuts uncomfortable.
The cursive logo, embroidered large on the thigh, is one of the most identifiable signatures on the rail.
What the shorts look like
Two ground colours: black or white. On the left thigh, the cursive logo at a large scale, outlined in white on the black version and in black on the white one. Down the right leg, a gold dragon in fine scrollwork, with a lettered mention low on the leg.
The wide elastic waistband takes the ground colour and carries the brand tab. Satin finish.
Why the longer leg changes how the short sits
A Thai short is cut to clear the knee, and most makers take that as far as it will go. Fairtex stops a little lower. The high side split is unchanged, so the hip is just as free for a head kick or a clinch, but the fabric covers more of the thigh at rest.
In practice that suits two people: anyone who finds the shortest cuts uncomfortable, and anyone with longer legs who wants the same proportion a shorter fighter gets from a standard Thai cut.

Worth knowing: the longer leg is the reason people go looking for this model specifically. If you have trained in a very short Thai cut and found it uncomfortable, this is the one that solves it without giving up the high split.
Getting the size right
European cut — take your usual size. Thai-made shorts are sized to the Thai market, which is why almost every seller tells you to order one size up. These are cut to European sizing, so that correction does not apply. Eight sizes, XS to 4XL, where most of the market stops at XXL. If you train in a groin guard, go one size up.
Also worth a look
- Fairtex red Muay Thai shorts — deep red with a tone-on-tone logo and camouflage trim, if you want the same brand in red.
- Fairtex pink Muay Thai shorts — pink with silver scrollwork, if you want the only pink short in the range.
- Black gold Muay Thai shorts — black and gold with Thai script, if you want black and gold without a brand mark.
- To complete the kit: boxing t-shirts and boxing hoodies.
- To gear up: boxing gloves, mouthguards and hand wraps.

Frequently asked questions
Do Fairtex shorts fit differently?
They run longer in the leg than the average Thai short, which is the point of the model. The waist is standard: take your usual size. Eight sizes run XS to 4XL.
What size Muay Thai shorts should I get?
Take your usual size. These are cut to European sizing, so the standard advice to order one size up — which applies to Thai-made shorts — does not apply here. Eight sizes run XS to 4XL. If you train in a groin guard, go one size up.
What is the difference between Muay Thai shorts and kickboxing shorts?
Length. Muay Thai shorts stop above the knee with a high side split; kickboxing and K-1 shorts sit lower, and boxing shorts lower again. Clearing the knee frees the head kick and the clinch, and it lets an opponent see the knee, which matters when low kicks are landing.
Can you wear Muay Thai shorts for boxing?
Yes. The short leg and high split take nothing away from footwork, and plenty of boxers train in them. The one difference is the low-blow line: boxing shorts mark it with a waistband above the navel, Thai shorts do not.
Do these come in big and tall sizes?
Yes, up to 4XL. Most of the market stops at XXL on a pair of Thai shorts.
How do you wash Muay Thai shorts?
Machine wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F, no tumble dryer, and never put an iron directly on the design. Skip the fabric softener: it coats the weave and slows how fast sweat moves through it.
