What the wolf actually stands for
The wolf turns up on fight kit so often that it is worth saying what it actually stands for. Not brute power — that is the gorilla or the bull. Not speed — that is the snake. The wolf is endurance and the pack.
An animal that wins nothing in the first seconds but stays in it, comes back, and works in a group. Which is why so many gyms take it as their emblem: it is the animal of the fighter who builds a win in the later rounds.
What the shorts look like
Black ground on the right leg. A large wolf head is worked there in orange, yellow and red, with flames carrying the fur upward. Vertical red lettering runs down the left leg, also black. The side slits are lined in red.
The waistband is black with a red trim. Sublimated print.
Why orange carries where blue blends
Both versions of this wolf share one drawing and change temperature. Orange and yellow sit at maximum brightness distance from a black ground: at five metres the head is still a head. The ice blue of the cold version works closer to its ground, so it reads up close and softens at distance.
So the choice is not only aesthetic — it is the distance at which you want to be identified. For the full detail of the fight short cut, see the grey geometric fight short.

Worth knowing: orange on black is the highest-contrast pairing in the wolf group. If you train in a hall with low lighting, it is the one that stays readable.
Getting the size right
European cut — take your usual size. Eight sizes, XS to 4XL, where most of the market stops at XXL on a fight short. The side slits are lined in red and stay visible at every size. The drawcord takes up a change in waist measurement through a camp. In a groin guard, go one size up.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference with the ice wolf version?
The same drawing in a different temperature. This one is worked in orange and yellow flame on black with red-lined slits; the ice version is glacier blue on black and charcoal with blue-lined slits. Cut, waistband and sizing are identical.
What is the difference between MMA shorts and boxing shorts?
An MMA short is built for the ground as well as the feet. It runs longer, to just above the knee, with a side slit on each leg so a closed guard and a leg pass do not bind the hip, and a flat drawcord waistband that stays tied when an opponent pulls on it. Boxing shorts have none of that.
Do these fit true to size?
Yes. European cut — take your usual size. Eight sizes run XS to 4XL. The drawcord takes up a change in waist measurement. If you train in a groin guard, go one size up.
Does the print wear off in the wash?
No. The design is sublimated into the fibre rather than laid on top of it, so there is no layer to crack or peel on the mat. Wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F and skip the fabric softener.
Do these come in big and tall sizes?
Yes, up to 4XL. Most of the market stops at XXL on a fight short.
How do you wash MMA shorts?
Machine wash inside out at 30 °C / 86 °F, no tumble dryer, and no iron on the design. Avoid fabric softener: it coats the weave and slows how fast sweat moves through it.
