Gervonta Davis started boxing at five, at the Upton Boxing Center in Baltimore, a municipal gym in a hard part of the city. His trainer, Calvin Ford, became a known figure there.
He took the IBF super featherweight world title in January 2017, at 22. The nickname Tank comes from his size — he stands 1.66 m / 5 ft 5 in — set against unusual punching power for the division.
