This is the headguard you put on a child discovering opposition, and on an adult who wants coverage on a first headguard. What makes it particular is its size scale, which goes down to 47 cm / 18.5 in of head circumference where adult headgear starts around 54 cm / 21.3 in.
Sizes, from the youngest to the adult
Measure the head circumference with a tape, around 2 cm / 0.8 in above the eyebrows and across the widest point at the back of the skull. The ages are given as a guide: the measurement decides, not the age.
| Size | Head circumference | Age guide |
|---|---|---|
| S | Under 47 cm / 18.5 in | Child under 7 |
| M | 47 to 53 cm / 18.5 to 20.9 in | Child and teenager, 7 to 15 |
| L | 54 to 62 cm / 21.3 to 24.4 in | Teenager from 15 and adult |
Note the practical consequence: on this model, only size L fits an adult head. An adult ordering an M will receive a teenager's headguard. Conversely, it is one of the few headguards on the market that goes low enough for a child in a club, where most models start at 53 cm / 20.9 in.
What the full coverage protects
- Covered: forehead, crown, temples, ears, cheeks and wrapped jaw down under the chin.
- Open: the eyes and the nose, through a deliberately wide face opening. On a young boxer that visibility counts double: you cannot learn to slip what you do not see coming.
This is an intermediate headguard, and we say so: the padding is single density, not multi-layer, with a thick polyurethane shell chosen for its resistance to shared use. The foam volume is generous and the coverage wide, which is entirely enough for supervised training and light opposition. For sustained sparring, the leather models in the range, with triple density foam, take over.
Adjustment and comfort
Two adjustment points. Adjustable crown straps vary the depth, which lets the headguard follow a child's growth over several seasons without buying another. A wide rear hook-and-loop with a tightening buckle closes the whole thing and stops it tipping.
The inside is lined with breathable mesh on the contact areas. That is a real advantage on wrapping headgear, which naturally holds heat, and a welcome hygiene point on equipment shared in a club.

Worth knowing: headgear sharply reduces cuts and bruising but does not remove the risk of concussion, and that holds particularly for children, whose brains remain more vulnerable. With young boxers, opposition should stay supervised, light and limited in duration; headgear supports that caution, it does not replace it. This is an intermediate model with single density padding: for sustained, repeated sparring, look at the leather headguards in the range. The shell is PU leather, not animal hide. And only size L fits an adult: check the measurement before ordering.

Frequently asked questions
Which size should I choose for a child?
Measure the head circumference with a tape, 2 cm / 0.8 in above the eyebrows. Under 47 cm / 18.5 in take size S; from 47 to 53 cm / 18.5 to 20.9 in, size M, which covers the 7 to 15 bracket; from 54 cm / 21.3 in, size L. Do not deliberately size up to allow for growth: loose headgear rotates on impact and stops protecting. The crown straps already give a good margin.
Is this headgear suitable for an adult?
Yes, in size L, which covers 54 to 62 cm / 21.3 to 24.4 in. Sizes S and M are child and teenager sizes: an adult ordering an M will receive headgear that is too small. That is the particularity of this model, whose scale goes far lower than standard adult headgear.
From what age can a child spar?
That depends on the club, the discipline and the coaching, and it is the coach's call. The principle that carries consensus is that with young boxers, opposition should stay light, brief and strictly supervised, with the emphasis on technical work, movement and pad work. Headgear supports that caution, it does not replace it.
How does it differ from the leather headguards in the range?
Two gaps: the material and the padding. Here, PU leather and single density foam — an intermediate model, sized for supervised training and first opposition. The real leather headguards in the range use triple density padding, which works in stages and keeps its properties far longer, with a hide that moulds to the head. For two sessions a week or a growing child this model does the job; for sustained sparring, take the leather.
How do you look after it when it is shared in a club?
Wipe the inside after each session with an alcohol-free disinfectant wipe and let it air dry, never in a closed bag or on a radiator. The mesh lining dries markedly faster than a solid lining, which limits odours on equipment passing between several boxers. Do not stack it under other kit: the foam keeps the deformation.
Is it suitable for muay thai and kickboxing?
Yes. The wrapping coverage of the cheeks and jaw is exactly what kickboxing calls for, where the face also takes knees and long straights. In MMA and grappling, where grips catch the edges, open face headgear leaves more clearance.
