In 1967, Muhammad Ali refused induction for Vietnam. He was stripped of his title, denied a licence in every American state and kept out of the ring for three and a half years, between 25 and 29 — the age at which a heavyweight is at his peak.
He came back in 1970, lost to Joe Frazier in 1971, lost to Ken Norton in 1973 with a broken jaw. Then, on 30 October 1974 in Kinshasa, he beat George Foreman and took the title back at 32.
The artwork
