Punching bag beam bracket

The essentials: an angle bracket for hanging a punching bag from the side of a beam, where a conventional hook screws in from underneath. 5 mm / 0.2 in plate, 10.5 x 9.5 x 3 cm / 4.1 x 3.7 x 1.2 in, pre-drilled and supplied with its fixings. Fitted with a double 360° swivel and a pinned shackle. Rated for static and dynamic loads up to 400 kg / 882 lb. €49, free standard shipping.
This is the answer for ceilings you cannot drill from below. If you have an exposed beam, a joist or a timber, this bracket fixes to its vertical face and the bag hangs down alongside the beam. No drilling into the ceiling, and no access from underneath needed.
Why side fixing changes things
Most fixings screw under a beam or a slab. That is straightforward when you can reach it — but in a lot of homes the underside is plastered over, too low, or the beam is boxed in.
This angle bracket solves that: it fixes to the side of the timber, with the horizontal return coming under the beam to carry the swivel. The bag ends up offset to one side, which also frees up room to move around it.
Three fixing points and a double swivel
- Three holes on the plate, against two on most hooks: the load spreads better and the bracket does not work as a pivot.
- Bolts and nuts supplied, for a firm clamp into the timber.
- Double swivel: the bag turns freely through 360° and on two axes. The strap never builds up twist, even when you move around the bag.
- Pinned shackle: the bag comes off in seconds, without tools and without touching the bracket.

What determines the load is the support. The 400 kg / 882 lb quoted applies to the part itself: the load your beam will actually take depends on its section, its condition and the quality of the anchoring. If you are unsure, a professional settles it in one visit. Check the tightness after the first sessions, then periodically — timber moves with humidity.

Fitting
- Find the beam and check its section: it must be sound, with no split and no through knot where the holes will go.
- Hold the bracket flat against the vertical face, with the horizontal return under the beam, and mark the three holes.
- Drill and bolt through, tightening evenly across the three points.
- Hang the swivel, then the bag by its shackle, and load it gradually for the first session.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference with a conventional ceiling hook?
The direction of the fixing. A hook screws under a beam or a slab; this bracket fixes to its vertical face, with a return passing underneath. It is the answer when the underside is plastered over, too low, or the beam is boxed in.
What can it be fixed to?
A sound exposed beam, joist or timber, with no split and no through knot where the holes go. The plate has three fixing points, so the load spreads rather than pivoting on two.
Is 400 kg enough?
Widely. 400 kg / 882 lb covers several times the weight of a heavy domestic bag. What your beam will take is the real limit, and depends on its section and condition.
What is the double swivel for?
It lets the bag turn through 360° on two axes, so the strap never builds up twist. Without it, a bag hung on a fixed hook has to be unwound by hand from time to time.
Can the bag be taken down easily?
Yes, through the pinned shackle: a few seconds, no tools, and the bracket stays in place. Useful in a room the bag cannot stay up in.
Are the fixings supplied?
Yes, bolts and nuts are included, for a firm clamp into timber. The plate arrives pre-drilled with three holes.
