The essentials: a soft LED neon of 120 x 40 cm / 47 x 16 in, a boxer with arms raised on the left, ESPRIT BOXE / FOR THE GLORY lettering on the right. RGB dimmer included: colour, brightness and effects change without touching the sign. €399, free shipping.
The neon sign was invented for a shop window, not a gym
On 3 December 1910, at the Paris Motor Show in the Grand Palais, the French engineer Georges Claude lit the first two neon tubes ever shown in public: twelve metres / forty feet of red-orange light above the hall. The process spread worldwide within twenty years and ended up on the fronts of American boxing gyms.
This model takes the look of those signs without the glass or the gas: the tube is LED flex, a soft silicone rope on a clear acrylic backing cut to the outline of the drawing. It lights instantly, does not heat up, and works on a living room wall as well as a home-gym wall.
What the visual shows
Two blocks separated by a vertical rule. On the left, a boxer face on, arms raised, fists closed, drawn in one continuous line. On the right, ESPRIT BOXE in solid capitals and, below, FOR THE GLORY in lighter letters. At three metres / ten feet you read both lines; at one metre / three feet you can see the LED rope and its fixing points.
The RGB dimmer takes the whole piece from blue to gold to purple, with brightness and effect settings.
Your size
The rule of thumb: a lit piece covers about two thirds of the width of whatever it hangs above, centred 150 cm / 59 in off the floor. The wall size chart sets out the match by wall type, from a desk to a full home-gym wall.

Good to know. The colour is changed after purchase, with the RGB dimmer supplied. If the room shifts mood through the day — living room in the evening, session in the morning — this is the piece for it. For one colour settled once and for all, the other neons come in ten fixed shades.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an LED neon and a real gas neon?
A gas neon is a fragile glass tube running on high voltage. LED flex is a soft silicone rope mounted on an acrylic backing: the same continuous line, no glass, no heat, instant switch-on. It is what almost every sign called a neon uses today.
How do you hang an LED neon on a wall?
The clear acrylic backing is drilled around its edge. Plugs and screws go into the wall, then the backing sits flush against them. Allow one fixing point every 30 to 40 cm / 12 to 16 in; standard plasterboard is enough.
Does a neon sign use much electricity?
No. An LED flex rope runs on very low voltage and can be left on for hours a day without a noticeable effect on the bill. The dimmer also lets you drop the brightness for ambient use.
What does RGB mean on a light?
RGB stands for Red Green Blue: the rope holds three LED chips per point and mixing them recreates any shade. That is what takes this sign from blue to gold to purple, which a single-colour neon cannot do.
Can it go in a gym or a bar?
Yes, that is what it was made for: 120 x 40 cm / 47 x 16 in, readable from across a room, steady light with no flicker. On a wall over three metres / ten feet, several pieces can be lined up.
