Speed bag swivel 360

The essentials: the swivel is the part that holds your speed bag and lets it turn. This chromed steel model rotates freely through 360°, on a round 9.6 cm / 3.8 in plate with four fixing points and a pinned shackle that lets you take the bag off without unscrewing anything. Supplied complete: 4 screws, 4 nuts and 4 washers. €29, free standard shipping.
This is the part nobody talks about and that decides everything. A speed bag only rebounds properly if it can pivot freely on every strike. If the swivel binds, the strap twists, the bag comes back off line and the rhythm breaks on the third punch — which is exactly what you were trying to train.
Why 360° rotation changes everything
On a speed bag, every impact sends the bag off in a different direction. It has to be able to turn on itself without resistance, or the strap builds up twist and eventually binds.
This model pivots through 360° on a rotating axle built into the base. The result: the bag comes back to the same place on every rebound, and the rhythm holds. That is what separates a proper swivel from a fixed hook, on which a speed bag cannot be worked at all.
The pinned shackle
The swivel ends in a U shackle closed by a pin and a clip. In practice you open the clip, pull the pin, and the bag comes off — without touching the plate screwed to the ceiling.
That is useful day to day: putting the bag away between sessions, replacing it as it wears, or swapping between two bags of different sizes on the same anchor point.

Where and how to fit it
- Choose the support: a concrete slab, a beam or the underside of an adjustable wall platform. Never a plasterboard false ceiling.
- Position the plate and mark the four holes. The centre of the plate should fall directly above where you intend to strike.
- Drill and fix with the four screws, nuts and washers supplied. Tighten firmly, without forcing far enough to distort the plate.
- Hang the bag on the shackle, refit the pin and close the clip.
- Check the rotation by hand: the bag should turn freely, with no tight spot.
Mounting height: the bottom of the speed bag should reach between the chin and the mouth, with the fists up in guard. That placement is what keeps the base and the posture. Work out your adjustment margin before drilling — holes cannot be taken back.
Care
- Check the four screws after the first sessions, then periodically: vibration loosens joints.
- Check the clip before every session: it is what holds the pin, and so the bag.
- A drop of lubricant on the rotating axle if a tight spot appears over time.
- Wipe off sweat that travels up to the shackle: chrome pits in the long run in a damp room.

Frequently asked questions
What is a speed bag swivel for?
To hang the bag and let it turn freely. A speed bag only rebounds properly if it can pivot on every strike; on a fixed hook the strap builds up twist and the bag comes back off line.
What is the diameter of the plate?
9.6 cm / 3.8 in, round, with four countersunk holes. Four fixing points rather than two spread the load and stop the plate working as a pivot.
Are the fixings supplied?
Yes: 4 screws, 4 nuts and 4 washers. Nothing else is needed beyond a drill suited to your support.
What can it be fitted to?
A concrete slab, a beam, or the underside of an adjustable wall platform if you have no usable ceiling. Never a plasterboard false ceiling.
At what height should a speed bag be fitted?
The bottom of the bag should reach between the chin and the mouth, fists up in guard. Too high and you punch upwards and lose your base; too low and the posture breaks.
Can the bag be taken off easily?
Yes, through the pin and clip: open the clip, pull the pin, and the bag comes off without touching the plate. Handy for putting it away or swapping between two bags.
