Punching bag swivel snaps

The essentials: a swivel with snap hooks that replaces the chain between your anchor point and your punching bag. The bag straps clip straight on to individual screw-gate snap hooks, and the central body turns freely so nothing twists. Three sizes depending on how many straps you have and how heavy the bag is. On and off in seconds. €29, free standard shipping.
A punching bag chain does three things you have to live with: it tangles, it rings against the bag on every strike, and it has to be taken apart link by link to change anything. This swivel answers all three at once: each strap has its own snap hook, the assembly rotates, and everything comes off by hand.
How it works
The principle is simple. At the top, a ring or a shackle fixes to your ceiling hook, your wall mount or your stand. At the bottom, screw-gate snap hooks each take one strap of the bag.
Between the two, a rotating body lets the bag turn on itself. That is what stops the straps twisting when you move around the bag, and what lets you work the angles without having to unwind the bag by hand every ten minutes.
The snap hooks are screw-gate, not simple spring gates: a collar screws down over the gate to lock it. On equipment suspended above someone, that is the difference between a closure that can open under a jolt and one that cannot.
Which size to choose
| Size | Top attachment | Snap hooks | For what use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | Ring | 2 | Speed bag, light bag on two straps |
| Medium | Shackle | 2 | Bag on two straps, heavier anchor |
| Large | Shackle | 4 | Heavy bag on four straps |
The deciding factor is the number of straps on your bag. Most punching bags have four: in that case take the large model, which takes each strand on its own snap hook and spreads the load. Speed bags and small two-strap bags are fine on the small or the medium.

Swivel and chain: what each one brings
The swivel brings free rotation of the bag, release in seconds without tools and silent running. The chain brings height adjustment link by link.
Our advice: plenty of people combine the two — a chain to set the height, then the swivel just above the bag for rotation and quick release.
Fitting
- Fix the top attachment — ring or shackle — to your ceiling hook, wall mount or stand.
- Clip each strap of the bag onto its own snap hook, spreading the strands evenly.
- Screw each collar fully down: that is what locks the snap hooks. Never leave a gate unscrewed.
- Check the rotation by hand: the bag should turn freely, with no tight spot.
- Check the collars before every session: vibration unscrews them over time.
The top anchor carries the load. A swivel connects the bag cleanly to a point that already has to hold the weight: check the strength of your top fixing first. Then inspect the snap hooks periodically — gate, collar and body — and replace any part that has deformed.

Frequently asked questions
What is a swivel on a punching bag for?
To let the bag turn on itself. Without it, the straps build up twist as you move around the bag and it has to be unwound by hand. The swivel also makes the bag silent, since there is no chain to ring against it.
Which size should I choose?
By the number of straps on your bag. Four straps, which is most punching bags: take the large, which gives each strand its own snap hook. Two straps, a speed bag or a light bag: small or medium.
Why screw-gate snap hooks?
Because a collar screws down over the gate to lock it. On equipment suspended above someone, that is the difference between a closure that can open under a jolt and one that cannot. Screw every collar fully down.
Can it be used instead of a chain?
Yes, if you do not need to adjust the height: the straps clip straight onto the snap hooks. If you do want height adjustment, keep a chain above the swivel.
Is it suitable for a speed bag?
The small size is, with its ring top attachment and two snap hooks. For a dedicated fitting, the 360° speed bag swivel screws to a ceiling or under a platform.
Does it fix straight to the ceiling?
No. It connects the bag to an anchor point that must already be in place — a ceiling hook, a wall mount, a stand or a rail. The top anchor is what carries the load.
