The essentials: Ali with his mouth open and red gloves raised, in the middle of a collage of painted slogans — work hard dream big, suffer now, make every step count, the world is yours — over flat reds, yellows and blues. 10 sizes from 20 × 30 cm / 8 × 12 in to 110 × 160 cm / 43 × 63 in. Frame sold separately. From €19 to €109 depending on size, free standard shipping.
Beaten, then champion for a third time
On 15 February 1978, in Las Vegas, Ali lost his title to Leon Spinks, a former Olympic medallist with only seven professional fights behind him. Ali was 36, had underestimated him and had trained lightly. The decision was split but clear.
The rematch came on 15 September 1978 at the Superdome in New Orleans, in front of 63,350 people — a record indoor crowd for a fight. Ali boxed on the back foot, scored at range and won a unanimous decision, becoming the first boxer to win the heavyweight title three times. The lines painted on this canvas — work hard, suffer now, make every step count — describe exactly what that rematch took.
What you see
Portrait format. Ali holds the centre, framed from the waist up, mouth wide open, red gloves raised either side of his face, bare chested, red wraps on the forearms.
The ground is a dense collage of hand painted slogans and layered lettering: work hard dream big, don't stop, don't quit, suffer now, make every step count, dreams don't work unless you do, stop talking start doing, the world is yours, there is no speed limit, motivate yourself, over flat areas of red, yellow, blue and grey. Large red lettering runs across the top. The words spill over the body.
From 3 m / 10 ft you read a shouting boxer in a mass of red; from 1 m / 3 ft each slogan becomes readable.

Worth knowing: a collage is made to be read close up, which makes this the piece that gives most in a corridor, an entrance or on an office wall — where people pass within a metre and reread a line while they wait. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
Ten slogans at reading height
The large lettering at the top carries the canvas from a distance; the small slogans, which are what makes the ground worth having, read at a metre from 40 × 60 cm / 16 × 24 in and at two metres from 70 × 100 cm / 28 × 39 in. The size chart by wall type covers the other placements room by room.

Frequently asked questions
What lines are painted on this canvas?
About ten slogans in English: work hard dream big, don't stop, suffer now, make every step count, dreams don't work unless you do, stop talking start doing, the world is yours, there is no speed limit and motivate yourself. They read at a metre from 40 × 60 cm / 16 × 24 in.
How many times was Muhammad Ali world champion?
Three: in 1964 against Sonny Liston, in 1974 against George Foreman, and in September 1978 against Leon Spinks — the first boxer to take the heavyweight title three times.
What size canvas should I hang above a sofa?
The working rule is about two thirds of the width of the furniture below it, centred 145 cm / 57 in from the floor. Over a 200 cm / 79 in three-seater, that means 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in; over a two-seater, 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in; in a hallway, 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in. The full size chart by wall type is on the Ali vs Liston 1965 page.
Where is the best place for this canvas?
Somewhere people pass close by: a corridor, an entrance, an office wall. The collage is built to be read at under a metre, which a large living room wall seen from a sofa does not allow.
Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
