The line is a locker-room joke. Except that in 2006, in Indianapolis, a former prosecutor living with Parkinson’s disease, Scott C. Newman, found that non-contact boxing training slowed his symptoms. He founded Rock Steady Boxing, the first gym in the world built for Parkinson’s patients.
The programme now runs through hundreds of affiliates worldwide. Coordination, rhythm, balance, voice work — everything a boxing gym already does.
The slogan is still a joke. It just happens to have something behind it.
