A throne won in single combat
Black Panther first appeared in July 1966, in issue 52 of Fantastic Four: the first Black superhero in mainstream American comics, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
The rule of the kingdom he leads takes one line, and it sits at the heart of every one of his stories: the throne is contested in single combat, bare handed, before witnesses. No election, no automatic inheritance — a fight framed by ritual, refereed, ending on submission or surrender. That is exactly the definition of a sporting contest. This canvas takes the logic all the way and stages the duel against Killmonger in a real ring, ropes, gloves and crowd included.
What you see
Landscape format, colour illustration. Two fighters hold the centre of the ring, mid action: on the left Killmonger, hair in long locks, torso scarified, gold gloves and grey trousers, black shoes; on the right Black Panther, blue shorts with a gold waistband, black gloves, barefoot, torso thrown back by the impact.
The ring is marked out by purple and blue ropes, with a red banner reading Marvel on the apron to the left. Behind, the hanging lights and colourful stands. From 3 m / 10 ft you read an exchange in a ring; from 1 m / 3 ft the detail of the setting and the faces appear.

Worth knowing: the landscape crop and the comic line make this one of the few canvases in the collection that works in a child's room or a playroom, above a sofa or a desk. Over a three-seater, 100 × 150 cm / 39 × 59 in covers two thirds of the width. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
A whole ring across the width
The subject does not stop at the two fighters: the ropes, the stands and the lights take half the surface and give the scale. Below 50 × 70 cm / 20 × 28 in the crowd turns into texture; at 100 × 150 cm / 39 × 59 in the canvas covers two thirds of a three-seater. The size chart by wall type covers the other placements room by room.

Frequently asked questions
Who are the two characters on this canvas?
Black Panther, on the right in blue shorts and black gloves, and Killmonger, on the left in gold gloves with a scarified torso. Black Panther first appeared in July 1966 in issue 52 of Fantastic Four, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
What size canvas should I hang above a sofa?
The working rule is about two thirds of the width of the furniture below it, centred 145 cm / 57 in from the floor. Over a 200 cm / 79 in three-seater, that means 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in; over a two-seater, 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in; in a hallway, 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in. The full size chart by wall type is on the Ali vs Liston 1965 page.
Is this canvas landscape?
Yes, landscape on all ten sizes, from 20 × 30 cm / 8 × 12 in to 110 × 160 cm / 43 × 63 in.
Is this canvas suitable for a child's room?
It is one of the few in the collection that is: a drawn illustration rather than a photograph, no blood and no injury shown, and a crowd scene that reads as a comic panel. 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in suits a bed wall.
Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
