What the ounces on a glove mean
The number marked on a boxing glove is not a hand size but a weight in ounces, one ounce being about 28 g. It sets the thickness of the padding, and therefore the protection. The reference points hold across the federations: 8 and 10 oz / 226 and 283 g for professional bouts depending on weight class, 12 oz / 340 g for pad and bag work, 14 and 16 oz / 397 and 454 g for sparring — the heavier the glove, the better protected the partner.
An 80 kg / 176 lb boxer sparring in 10 oz is putting his partner at risk, not himself. The glove painted on this canvas is clearly a heavy training model: short cuff, round shape, thick padding across the knuckles.

Worth knowing: the plain black ground needs a light wall for the edge of the canvas to stay visible. No face and no quote: this is the one to choose when you want boxing on the wall without a champion or a sentence. Embers that gain with size
The two glowing masses separate from the black at 20 × 30 cm / 8 × 12 in already.
