Why the stitch lines sit so close together
On a puffer jacket, the spacing between two stitch lines is not a graphic choice: it is a setting. Each line closes a baffle that holds the fill where it needs to stay. The wider the baffles, the more material can go in and the warmer the jacket — but the more room the fill has to shift and leave hollow spots. The narrower they are, the more even the distribution and the slimmer the silhouette.
The baffle principle goes back to the Eddie Bauer Skyliner, patented in the United States in 1940: the first garment to stitch down into compartments to stop it settling at the bottom of the jacket.
This jacket is the second type. Its close horizontal bands give it a shape near the body, without the bulk of an expedition puffer. It is the compromise chosen for a garment you keep on in the gym, fold into a bag and put back on to leave.
Cut, fabric and finish
Non-removable hood, lined in marl grey and drawn in by a cord with tips. The grey shows as soon as the hood is up, contrasting with the black of the rest. Full zip running to the chin, zipped side pockets, fine horizontal quilting on the body and the sleeves.
The marking sits on the right chest: the official Esprit Boxe logo with the motto FOR THE GLORY below, printed in white on black. It is the only light element on the garment apart from the hood lining.
One colourway
Black, with the marl grey hood lining and white marking. The drawcord is grey, the zip pulls black.

Frequently asked questions
Why are the quilting lines so close together?
Because each line closes a baffle holding the fill in place. Wide baffles take more material and hold more heat, but let the fill shift and leave hollow spots. Narrow ones spread it evenly and keep the silhouette slim — which is what this jacket is built for.
Where does the baffle principle come from?
From the Eddie Bauer Skyliner, patented in the United States in 1940 — the first garment to stitch down into compartments so it could not settle at the bottom of the jacket.
Is it warm enough for winter?
It is a light puffer: near the body, foldable, made to be kept on in the gym and put back on to leave. For more volume through the chest, the stand collar puffer uses wider quilting.
What sizes does it come in?
Six sizes, S to XXXL, with the chest running from 106 cm / 42 in to 142 cm / 56 in. European cut — take your usual size.
Is the hood removable?
No, it is fixed, lined in marl grey and drawn in by a cord. The grey shows as soon as the hood is up — with the chest marking, it is the only light element on the jacket.
How do you look after it?
Machine wash at 30 °C / 86 °F, inside out, no tumble dryer and no iron directly on the print. Washing inside out is what protects the marking: it is the friction against the drum that dulls a print, more than the water.
