The three-point crown comes from a New York painter
The motif repeated across this canvas — a three-pointed crown drawn in one stroke — is the visual signature of Jean-Michel Basquiat, the New York painter of the 1980s. He set it above the figures he considered kings: jazz musicians, athletes, boxers.
Boxing runs through his work. He painted Sugar Ray Robinson in 1982, then Joe Louis, Cassius Clay and Jersey Joe Walcott — Black fighters who became champions in a country that withheld everything else. The crown was how he said it without words. The motif has been a street art code ever since, and it appears around twenty times on this canvas.
What you see
Portrait format, edge to edge coverage. Tyson holds the centre, framed from the thighs up, arms bent and fists closed in front of his chest, bare chested, dark trunks. The body is painted in flesh tones over a heavy black outline.
The background layers flat blues, pinks, reds and yellows under a pile-up of tags: the word boxing repeated vertically, his name in black capitals, and three-pointed crowns everywhere. Along the bottom, the line in white capitals across two lines. From 3 m / 10 ft you read a boxer and a sentence; from 1 m / 3 ft every tag separates out.

Worth knowing: colour covers the whole surface, so this canvas sets the tone of a room on its own and holds a wall by itself. The white capitals along the bottom read from 3 m / 10 ft at 50 × 70 cm / 20 × 28 in and up. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
The size at which the line can be read
The painted line takes the bottom quarter of the canvas, across two lines of capitals. It reads from 2 m / 6 ft at 40 × 60 cm / 16 × 24 in, and from across a room at 50 × 70 cm / 20 × 28 in. The size chart by wall type covers the other placements room by room.

Frequently asked questions
What does the writing on this canvas say?
I'm the best ever, in white capitals across two lines along the bottom, with the word boxing and his name tagged repeatedly in the background.
What size canvas should I hang above a sofa?
The working rule is about two thirds of the width of the furniture below it, centred 145 cm / 57 in from the floor. Over a 200 cm / 79 in three-seater, that means 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in; over a two-seater, 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in; in a hallway, 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in. The full size chart by wall type is on the Ali vs Liston 1965 page.
What does the three-point crown mean in street art?
It comes from Jean-Michel Basquiat, who drew it above the figures he treated as kings — jazz musicians and boxers among them. He painted Sugar Ray Robinson in 1982, then Joe Louis and Cassius Clay. Since the 1980s the crown has been read as a shorthand for that idea across street art.
Is this canvas suitable for a teenager's room?
It is one of the more common choices for one: full colour, a legible line and no depiction of an injury or a fall. The 40 × 60 cm / 16 × 24 in size suits a desk wall, 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in a bed wall.
Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
