The essentials: the most quoted line in boxing, set in large white capitals on black above a black and white photograph of Tyson landing a punch. Landscape format, 12 sizes from 13 × 18 cm / 5 × 7 in to 110 × 160 cm / 43 × 63 in, 11 of them ready framed in wood. From €9 to €109 depending on size, free standard shipping.
The line is older than its famous version
The line printed on this canvas was not coined in a dressing room or in a film. It surfaced around the Tyrell Biggs fight in the autumn of 1987: Biggs had told reporters he had a plan to beat the champion, and Tyson's answer first circulated in a shorter form — everybody has a plan until they get hit.
The earliest datable citations are from November 1987, when the footballer Walter Payton used it at a press conference, and from Esquire in February 1988. The version printed here, with punched in the mouth, spread later and is usually attached to the 1996 Evander Holyfield build-up. Both accounts circulate; only the 1987 ones can be dated. The Biggs fight itself ended in the seventh round, on 16 October 1987.
What you see
Landscape format, black ground. The upper third carries the text in white capitals across three lines, one word set much larger than the rest, followed by the attribution in small type. Below, a black and white photograph runs the full width: Tyson landing a punch, right glove on the chin of an opponent bent forward, left glove cocked out to the side.
The two zones blend into each other with no hard division, the ring lights catching the shoulders. From 3 m / 10 ft you read the line; from 1 m / 3 ft the scene and the glove laces come through.

Worth knowing: a text canvas is read, so it belongs where people stop — a desk, a landing, the wall facing a sofa. From 40 × 60 cm / 16 × 24 in the line and the attribution read without effort at two metres. Eleven of the twelve sizes come ready framed in wood.
A landscape text canvas sits over furniture
The line runs the full width, so the piece asks for width rather than height. Allow 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in over a desk and 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in over a three-seater. The size chart by wall type covers the other placements room by room.

Frequently asked questions
What does the quote on this canvas say?
Everyone has a plan till they get punched in the mouth, in white capitals across three lines, attributed to Mike Tyson underneath.
Where does the everyone has a plan quote come from?
From the build-up to the Tyrell Biggs fight in the autumn of 1987. The earliest datable citations are from November 1987, when Walter Payton quoted it, and Esquire in February 1988, both in the shorter form everybody has a plan until they get hit. The wording printed here, with punched in the mouth, spread later and is usually attached to the 1996 Evander Holyfield build-up. Both accounts circulate; only the 1987 ones can be dated.
What size canvas should I hang above a sofa?
The working rule is about two thirds of the width of the furniture below it, centred 145 cm / 57 in from the floor. Over a 200 cm / 79 in three-seater, that means 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in; over a two-seater, 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in; in a hallway, 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in. The full size chart by wall type is on the Ali vs Liston 1965 page.
Is the frame included?
On 11 of the 12 sizes, yes: the ready framed option ships the canvas stretched on its wooden frame. Only 20 × 30 cm / 8 × 12 in ships rolled in a tube; for that one, frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
What size keeps the text readable?
From 40 × 60 cm / 16 × 24 in the line and the attribution read at two metres; from 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in they read from across a room. Below 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in the text works as a graphic band.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
