The essentials: Tyson in profile, black and white on a concrete ground, with one glove redrawn as a red neon outline over a turquoise wrist, and a second red neon line down the trunks — a printed glow, with no electricity. 10 sizes from 20 × 30 cm / 8 × 12 in to 110 × 160 cm / 43 × 63 in. Frame sold separately. From €19 to €109 depending on size, free standard shipping.
The neon tube was shown in Paris in 1910
The effect copied on this canvas has a precise birthday: 3 December 1910, at the Paris motor show in the Grand Palais. The French engineer Georges Claude lit the peristyle with two 12 m / 39 ft tubes filled with neon gas, glowing orange red. He patented the process, and within twenty years the lit sign had become the visual signature of theatres, cinemas and American boxing gyms.
The gyms Tyson trained in during the 1980s were still marked out by signs of this kind. The orange red on this canvas is the colour of pure neon: every other colour on a real sign comes from a different gas.
What you see
Portrait format, textured grey ground reading as raw concrete. The boxer is framed from the thighs up, in profile, turned to the right of the image, lead arm drawn in, bare chested, dark trunks, in high contrast black and white.
The lead glove is replaced by a red double outline with the wrist drawn in turquoise, and a second red line runs down the side of the trunks. Those are the only areas of colour in the image. From 3 m / 10 ft you see a red shape floating on grey; from 1 m / 3 ft the full silhouette and the grain of the concrete come through.

Worth knowing: a single area of colour on the whole canvas makes this one easy to place, including in a room that is already busy, because it competes with no palette. The three Tyson neon canvases differ by crop — profile, bust or full length — not by colour. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
A profile reads from across the room
The profile separates from the grey ground from 40 × 60 cm / 16 × 24 in upwards, which makes it the most legible of the three at small sizes. On a bare span, 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in lets the red area behave like a light source. The size chart by wall type covers the other placements room by room.

Frequently asked questions
Does the neon on this canvas light up?
No. The glow is printed, not lit: there is no tube, no wiring and no power supply. The effect comes from a double outline and a halo worked into the artwork, which is why it reads as neon from a distance and as ink up close. If you want a wired sign, that is a different product family — see the boxing neon signs.
What size canvas should I hang above a sofa?
The working rule is about two thirds of the width of the furniture below it, centred 145 cm / 57 in from the floor. Over a 200 cm / 79 in three-seater, that means 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in; over a two-seater, 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in; in a hallway, 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in. The full size chart by wall type is on the Ali vs Liston 1965 page.
How is this different from the other Tyson neon canvases?
The crop, not the colour: all three use the same red with a turquoise wrist. This one is a profile framed from the thighs up with a single lit glove; the full length neon shows the whole standing figure face on, and the neon gloves canvas is a symmetrical bust with two gloves.
When were neon signs invented?
The first public neon lighting was shown by Georges Claude on 3 December 1910 at the Paris motor show, using two 12 m / 39 ft tubes. Commercial signs followed through the 1920s, and the orange red of pure neon is the colour reproduced here.
Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
