The art of eight limbs
Muay thai is called the art of eight limbs, against boxing which uses two. To the fists it adds elbows, knees and shins: eight legal striking surfaces instead of two.
A ninth weapon, which does not strike, completes the arsenal: the clinch, the two-handed neck tie that lets a fighter control his opponent and bring the knees up. It is what separates muay thai most clearly from kickboxing, where the clinch is limited to a few seconds. Before each bout the fighter performs the wai khru ram muay, a ritual dance saluting his teacher and his gym.

Worth knowing: a four panel plate is read left to right, so it wants a clear span of wall — above a sofa, a bench or a desk. Over a three-seater, 100 × 150 cm / 39 × 59 in covers two thirds of the width. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
Four panels read left to right
The four words in capitals carry the plate from 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in upwards. The phrases beneath and the detail of the stances need 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in; at 100 × 150 cm / 39 × 59 in each fighter reads as an illustration in its own right. Why is muay thai called the art of eight limbs?
Because it allows eight striking surfaces — two fists, two elbows, two knees, two shins — against two in boxing. The clinch, a two-handed neck tie used to control the opponent and land knees, is a ninth weapon that does not strike.

The working rule is about two thirds of the width of the furniture below it, centred 145 cm / 57 in from the floor. Is this canvas suitable for a club gym?
It is designed for one: four named stances on a single plate, readable from 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in, with no champion and no promotion on it. At 100 × 150 cm / 39 × 59 in it holds a wall above a bench.
Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
