The four punches that make up all of boxing
The words on this canvas are not decoration: they are the names of the legal punches in boxing, and there are only four. The jab is the lead hand straight, the fastest and the most used: it measures distance as much as it lands. The rear hand straight, usually called the cross, comes from the strong side across the opponent's guard. The hook arrives from the side, elbow at a right angle, outside the field of vision. The uppercut travels up under the guard, the only one that hits the chin from below.
Everything else — combinations, feints, slips — is an arrangement of those four. The canvas names three of them in its panels: jab, hook and uppercut. The cross is the one that does not appear.
What you see
Portrait format, white ground. Ali holds the right half, framed from the shoulders up, three quarters on, the face worked in flat black and white with a few pink touches. Below, a dark torso carries a yellow superhero emblem and the words Super Ali in large green letters on a pink band.
Around him, coloured rectangular panels — green, yellow, red — carry the punch names in capitals: jab, hook, uppercut. A bee and a pink butterfly sit on the left, a small crown top right, and several painted lines: say my name?, I'm so mean, I make medicine sick, shake up the world, imagination has wings, Bronx, pop art. From 3 m / 10 ft you read a face and coloured blocks; from 1 m / 3 ft every word can be read.

Worth knowing: the white ground and the coloured blocks make this a canvas that teaches something, which is why it belongs in a club, a home gym or the room of a child starting boxing. From 50 × 70 cm / 20 × 28 in the panels read from two metres. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
A canvas read word by word
The punch panels read at two metres from 50 × 70 cm / 20 × 28 in; the small painted lines need 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in or a viewing distance under a metre. In a training room, 70 × 100 cm / 28 × 39 in puts the three panels at eye level. The size chart by wall type covers the other placements room by room.

Frequently asked questions
What punches are legal in boxing?
Four, and nothing else: the jab, lead hand straight; the cross, rear hand straight; the hook, elbow at a right angle from the side; the uppercut, travelling up under the guard. The panels on this canvas name three of them — jab, hook and uppercut.
What size canvas should I hang above a sofa?
The working rule is about two thirds of the width of the furniture below it, centred 145 cm / 57 in from the floor. Over a 200 cm / 79 in three-seater, that means 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in; over a two-seater, 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in; in a hallway, 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in. The full size chart by wall type is on the Ali vs Liston 1965 page.
Why are there a bee and a butterfly on this canvas?
They are the two halves of the line he built his reputation on, about floating and stinging. The butterfly stands for the movement, the bee for the punch; both are drawn on the left of the composition.
Is this canvas suitable for a child's room?
It is one of the few in the collection designed to be read as much as looked at: a white ground, no fight scene, and three panels naming the punches. 40 × 60 cm / 16 × 24 in suits a desk wall.
Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
