The illegal blows, and why they are illegal
One of the panels on this plate lists the fouls. They are not banned on principle but because each one has put someone in hospital.
The low blow targets an area with no protecting muscle. The blow to the back of the head, the rabbit punch, hits the join between skull and spine where the brainstem runs. The head butt, deliberate or not, opens cuts and distorts the result by forcing a stoppage on injury. Hitting a man who is down or getting up leaves him no defence at all. Add holding with one hand while hitting with the other, and the blow struck after the bell.
The two plates
Boxing Knowledge — rules and anatomy. Cream ground divided into five red-banded panels: the rules of a bout with a weight class table and a ring diagram seen from above, the muscular anatomy of two boxers in a guard, the fouls illustrated one by one, the guards and footwork, and the glove types with a quality comparison.
Boxing — techniques and equipment. Darker ochre ground in two columns: on the left the defensive and offensive moves drawn in sequences and the detail of the five glove families; on the right an equipment plate in ink — headguard, heavy bag, teardrop bag, speed bag, gloves, ring.

Worth knowing: a plate is read close up, which puts it in a club gym, a home gym or a corridor at eye level. Below 50 × 70 cm / 20 × 28 in the panels become illegible. The two versions hang side by side, 5 to 8 cm / 2 to 3 in apart. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
A plate is chosen on reading distance
Both versions are built from panels full of text and diagrams: this is the one family in the collection where the size depends neither on the furniture nor on the wall, but on how close you stand. Allow 50 × 70 cm / 20 × 28 in as a minimum, 70 × 100 cm / 28 × 39 in to read the panels standing a metre away, and 100 × 150 cm / 39 × 59 in to read them at two metres. Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
