Why a ring has a red corner and a blue corner
A ring has four corners and only two of them are assigned: the red corner and the blue corner, diagonally opposite. The other two are neutral: that is where a fighter who has just put his opponent down has to go, so that the referee can count without interference.
The rule has a precise reason. Without it, a boxer could stand over the man on the floor and hit him the moment he came up on one knee. That is exactly what Ali did at Lewiston in 1965, and it is why the referee lost the count. By convention the red corner goes to the champion or the higher ranked fighter, the blue corner to the challenger. Blue is the colour of the man who comes to take it.
What you see
Portrait format. The boxer is painted face on, framed from the hips up, fists closed in a guard, dark gloves. The face is built from juxtaposed planes of blue, purple and yellow with no gradients, in the manner of stained glass.
The ground is a uniform deep blue, denser than the figure, which is what brings the yellow areas of the face forward. No text, no signature. From 3 m / 10 ft you read a blue face; from 1 m / 3 ft each plane of colour separates.

Worth knowing: saturated blues give their best on a white, pale grey or light wood wall, where they supply the only colour in the room. In an interior that is already blue, the Muhammad Ali portrait canvas brings reds and ochres that warm the space instead. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
Flat planes take small sizes
The face is built from closed planes of colour with no gradients, so the drawing stays whole where a photograph would lose its detail. 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in already holds an office wall, 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in a living room span. The size chart by wall type covers the other placements room by room.

Frequently asked questions
Why does a boxing ring have a red corner and a blue corner?
Because only two corners are assigned — red to the champion or higher ranked fighter, blue to the challenger — and the other two are kept neutral. A fighter who scores a knockdown must go to a neutral corner so the referee can count cleanly.
What size canvas should I hang above a sofa?
The working rule is about two thirds of the width of the furniture below it, centred 145 cm / 57 in from the floor. Over a 200 cm / 79 in three-seater, that means 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in; over a two-seater, 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in; in a hallway, 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in. The full size chart by wall type is on the Ali vs Liston 1965 page.
Is there any text on this canvas?
None — no name, no quote, no signature. The subject is carried entirely by the colour, which is what makes it the quietest portrait in the range to place.
What wall colour does this canvas work against?
A white, pale grey or light wood wall, where the saturated blues supply the only colour in the room. On a wall that is already blue the canvas merges into it.
Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
