The LED does not run round the pad to dress up a product shot. On a desk lit by a single screen, it marks out the working area and throws enough light to find a key without turning the ceiling light on. It is functional ambient lighting, not just an effect.
Two modes, two different uses.
Static mode locks one colour out of seven: that is the one to keep for a long session, because light cycling in your peripheral vision wears on you. Multicolour mode rolls through the spectrum continuously — striking, but best kept for moments when you are not staring at the screen. A dimmer lowers the intensity in both cases.
USB power: what it means
The pad plugs into a USB port on the computer or a hub. Three practical consequences:
- You need a free USB port, on top of the ones used by keyboard and mouse.
- The cable exits at a corner of the pad: plan which side your tower or laptop sits on.
- The LED goes off when the computer goes off, unless your port stays powered in standby.
There is no battery and no cell: nothing to recharge, and nothing runs without the cable either.

Measure the usable width of your desk before ordering: a pad folded against a wall or a monitor stand keeps the crease. A 100 x 50 cm / 39 x 20 in needs at least 110 cm / 43 in of usable width.

Good to know before ordering
You need a free USB port. The LED runs off the cable: count your ports before ordering if your laptop only has two. The tracking surface itself works plugged in or not.
Cleaning is done with a cloth. The edge holds wiring and electronics: never a machine, never immersion. A slightly damp microfibre cloth over the textile surface, pad unplugged, keeps it clean.
It arrives rolled. Leave it flat for 24 to 48 hours before judging how flat it sits. Never fold it in two: the crease would crush the LED strip and could cut it for good.
Care
A slightly damp, well wrung microfibre cloth, on the textile surface only. Keep carefully away from the lit border and the USB connector. No immersion, no washing machine, no detergent. Unplug before any cleaning.
