An outline drawing, and a clear vinyl
Unlike the solid-area designs, this one is drawn in separate lines: back muscles, abdominals, the folds of the shorts and the glove straps are all distinct strokes. Hence the 8 colours offered in 42 x 49 and 57 x 64 cm / 17 x 19 and 22 x 25 in, including a gold for dark walls and a clear that, on glass or a mirror, leaves only the relief of the vinyl.
The uppercut is the only punch that travels upwards: it goes under the guard instead of round it, and lands on the chin from below, where the jaw carries the shock to the base of the skull. That is the instant this drawing fixes.
The design
Almost square format. Two bare-chested boxers face each other, framed at mid-thigh. The one on the left, in profile, has the right arm bent and the gloved fist raised to his opponent's chin; his left arm stays tucked along the ribs. The one on the right takes it: head thrown back, throat exposed, right arm thrown down into empty space.
This is an outline drawing rather than a solid silhouette: back muscles, abdominals, the folds of the shorts and the glove straps are rendered as separate lines. At three metres / ten feet you read two bodies and an upward movement; at one metre / three feet you can follow every line of muscle.
Technical specifications
Tip: the drawing is made of fine lines rather than solid areas, so it wants a plain background: on a white or light grey wall every line reads. Gold works on a black or charcoal wall, clear on glass or a mirror, where only the relief of the vinyl carries the design. What size of wall sticker should I choose?
The format is almost square, so the width of the wall panel decides. Allow at least 80 cm / 31 in of clear wall for the 57 × 64 cm / 22 × 25 in, 60 cm / 24 in for the 42 × 49 cm / 17 × 19 in. Above a weights bench or a low unit, the larger size holds the scale.
What is an uppercut in boxing?
The only punch that travels upwards: the fist starts low and strikes the chin from below, passing under the guard instead of round it. It is thrown at short range, knees bent, the power coming from the feet. The most famous in heavyweight history is Buster Douglas's on Mike Tyson, on 11 February 1990 in Tokyo.
What does the clear colour actually give?
Clear vinyl lets the surface show through the design: on glass or a mirror, only the slight relief of the vinyl and raking light reveal the motif, which gives an etched effect. On a painted wall the contrast becomes very low: black, grey or gold work better there.
Will the sticker hold in a damp room?
Yes. Vinyl is unaffected by damp or steam, which makes it usable in a changing room or a bathroom, as long as you keep clear of the zone the shower sprays directly. The surface chart covers every case.
Does the design go on in one piece?
Yes. Everything is cut from a single sheet and held by the clear transfer film: the spacing is set in advance. You apply the whole block at once and peel the film last.
