Full coverage across the four impact zones
The protections are integral to the shell: cheek pads rising under the eye socket, a padded forehead band, closed ears and a chin guard that takes the chin from below. That architecture absorbs hooks and straights that slide off, the area most often caught in beginner sparring. The face opening stays wide so the lateral field of vision is not cut.
Single density padding: what it means in practice
The foam is one density, not stacked layers. It absorbs training touches properly, but it is calibrated for everyday training rather than for repeated heavy impacts. That is the normal level at this price, and we would rather write it than announce a triple density the product does not have. For sustained sparring or daily club use, the leather models in the range take over.
Adjustment and hold
Two adjustment points. A strap across the crown sets the seating height, and therefore where the face opening sits in front of your eyes. A wide rear hook-and-loop with a tightening buckle closes everything at the nape. Always adjust in that order: the crown first, the rear second, then shake your head firmly. If the opening stays lined up with your eyes, you are set.
The lining is a perforated mesh that releases heat and limits sweat building up in the foam. The headguard goes on and comes off unaided, with no lacing.
Which size to choose, and why XL changes things
Measure your head circumference with a tape, around 2 cm / 0.8 in above the eyebrows and across the widest point at the back of the skull. Between two sizes, take the smaller: the foam settles with use and headgear that is too big rotates on every impact.

Worth knowing: headgear sharply reduces cuts and bruising but does not remove the risk of concussion, and no headgear does. This is an intermediate model with single density padding: for sustained sparring, you need multi-layer padding. The shell is PU leather, not animal hide: a damp cloth after each session and air drying keep the fold areas in shape. And this format is not allowed in official competition: in amateur boxing, sanctioned bouts are fought in open face headgear, with no cheek pads or chin guard.

Is this headgear allowed in competition?
No. In amateur boxing, sanctioned bouts are fought in open face headgear: the cheek pads and chin guard of a full coverage model are not allowed in the ring. This one is for training and light sparring. For competition, choose the open face headgear in real leather.
PU leather or real leather for boxing headgear?
PU leather is lighter, easier to clean and the sensible choice for starting out or occasional use. Real leather is suppler, moulds to the shape of the head and lasts markedly longer, but asks for regular care. Below two sessions a week, PU covers it; above that, leather starts paying for itself.
Does full coverage headgear restrict your vision?
The face opening is wide, but the cheek pads narrow the downward field compared with open face headgear. That is the trade-off of full coverage: more protection, slightly less low peripheral vision. If visibility is your priority, go for an open model.
Is it suitable for a child?
Size S suits a teenager or a larger child. For a younger child, the kids headgear in the catalogue goes below 47 cm / 18.5 in of head circumference and will fit better: it is one of the few on the market that goes that low.
How do you look after PU leather headgear?
A damp cloth or an alcohol-free disinfectant wipe is enough, and above all no oily products: PU does not need feeding, unlike animal hide. Air dry, never on a radiator or shut inside a bag. Check the grip of the hook-and-loop regularly, it is the first part to tire.
