In 1923 the Chicago Tribune created an amateur tournament open to all, the Golden Gloves. Neighbourhood gyms sent their youngsters, stencilled their name on the door and became local institutions. Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson all came through that circuit before turning professional. This blanket takes the look of those signs: worn lettering, a date, the name of the club.
What the visual shows
Plain black ground. The gold lettering, printed with a worn stamp effect and cracked letters, runs the full width across four lines: BALBOA, then PHILADELPHIA, PA, then BOXING CLUB, and finally 19 (USA) 47 framing a figure set off by a bracket. The black and gold follow the shop's own identity and sit directly with a dark interior.
Choosing your size
Three sizes, given width by height: 125x100 cm / 49x39 in for an armchair or a sofa back, 150x125 cm / 59x49 in for a two-seat sofa, 200x150 cm / 79x59 in for a three-seat sofa or thrown across a double bed. The full match-up is set out in the collection's size guide.

Good to know
The lettering is printed into the fibre rather than applied as a flock: it does not crack when folded and takes low-heat tumble drying. Simply avoid ironing directly on the design.

Frequently asked questions
What size blanket suits a double bed?
The largest size in this range is 200x150 cm / 79x59 in: it covers a single bed completely and lies across the foot of a 140 or 160 cm / 55 or 63 in bed. To cover a double bed fully with an overhang, the usual recommendation is 220x240 cm / 87x94 in. The size guide gives the detail.
Does the gold dull in the wash?
No, the colour is in the fibre and not on the surface. Wash cold, with no bleach and no softener, and dry at low heat: the contrast between gold and black stays the same wash after wash.
What is the gym called in the Rocky films?
Mighty Mick's Gym, the gym of the old trainer Mickey Goldmill played by Burgess Meredith. It appears from the first film in 1976 and becomes the lead character's property in Rocky III.
What are the Golden Gloves?
The largest amateur boxing tournament in the United States, created in 1923 by the Chicago Tribune. It remains the classic route into the professional ranks: Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson all competed in it.
Does it arrive ready to give?
It comes folded and wrapped, with no price tag, and standard shipping is free. The 125x100 cm / 49x39 in is the simplest to post, the 150x125 cm / 59x49 in the most versatile in use.
The same world carries on with boxing wall art and the rest of the boxing decoration.
