The essentials: Ringside started life as a four-page catalogue mailed out by John H. Brown in 1977. Laced boxing glove on a black base, RINGSIDE raised on the cuff. At 11 cm / 4.3 in it sits in one hand and travels in a kit bag to the ring apron — this is the size for awards handed over on your feet. Resin with an antique silver finish and gold laces. €129, free shipping.
Four pages mailed from a basement
John H. Brown, an amateur boxer who learned the sport in a St. Louis gym, opened his own gym in Kansas City and in 1977 started an equipment company whose first catalogue ran to four pages. He named it after the gym that taught him: Ringside.
The word also means the front row, the seats against the ring apron. That is the marking this glove carries, raised on the cuff.
What you get
A closed boxing glove sculpted at reduced scale, standing on a black lacquered base with softened corners. The laces and their bow are picked out in gold down the front face; RINGSIDE is raised in gold across the cuff at the back.
What a photograph will not tell you: the antique silver finish is not flat grey but rubbed metal, brighter on the ridges and dark in the folds. From 3 m / 10 ft you read a silver glove on a black base; from 1 m / 3 ft the thumb seam and the moulded leather grain come through. The base is gloss lacquered, with no fitted plate.

Buying tip: this size is made to be handed over rather than displayed. If the trophy has to sit on the top table all evening and read from the back of the hall, a 29 to 40 cm / 11 to 16 in model does that job. For an individual gift or a club cabinet that is already full, 11 cm / 4.3 in is enough.
Choosing a boxing trophy for an award night
Three things decide it: viewing distance, whether you need an engraving plate, and how many awards you are handing out. Under 15 cm / 6 in a trophy is made to be held and taken home; over 25 cm / 10 in it works as the centrepiece on the prize table. If a name, a date or a club has to be engraved, choose a model with a fitted plate on the base.
