Thirty years for a silver medal
In the heavyweight final at Helsinki in 1952, Sweden's Ingemar Johansson was disqualified for passivity against Ed Sanders and his silver medal was withheld. He waited until 1982 for the International Olympic Committee to hand it over.
A medal is not just something given out at the end of the night: it is the physical record of a result. Which is why the back of this one is built to be engraved.
What you get
A 65 mm / 2.6 in disc with a raised boxer in guard, wrists wrapped, inside a double circle edged with a Greek key border. The back carries a laurel wreath around a smooth 42 mm / 1.7 in panel. Red and gold striped ribbon on a flat bail.
What the photograph will not tell you: the three finishes separate mostly in the depth of the relief. Gold is a clear yellow, silver is bright and satin, bronze leans coppery pink. The ribbon is the same on all three: in a podium photograph the discs carry the ranking, not the ribbons.

Buying tip: the 42 mm / 1.7 in panel takes three to four short lines of laser engraving. For an annual tournament, engrave the category and the year rather than the name: medals that go unclaimed stay usable next season and store as a batch.
Working out a full podium
A podium needs three medals per category, often four in amateur boxing where both losing semi-finalists are placed joint third. Double that if the tournament runs men's and women's categories. For the overall winner, a figurative trophy marks the difference in rank with no text needed.
You may also like
- Glove trophy 23 cm — four finishes, if the winner should leave with a piece that stands on a shelf.
- Boxer statue trophy — four attitudes, guard up or arm raised, if you want the gesture to separate the categories.
- Bronze glove trophy — 29 cm / 11.4 in with a blank plate, if the champion's name has to appear on the main award.
The full range sits in the boxing belts and trophies collection.
