The essentials: taekwondo became a full Olympic sport at Sydney 2000, after two appearances as a demonstration event. Gold figure throwing a high kick, on a bevelled black base. The smooth panel on the base takes engraving — name, club, date — which is what separates a trophy from an ornament. 30.5 cm / 12 in tall, base 8 cm / 3.1 in. €79, free shipping.
From demonstration sport to Olympic podium
Taekwondo appeared at the Games as a demonstration sport at Seoul in 1988, then again in Barcelona in 1992. Only at Sydney in 2000 did it enter the official programme, with eight titles at stake, four for men and four for women.
The high kick this figure reproduces is what scores most in competition: a head strike is worth three points, a body strike one.
What you get
A practitioner in a dobok, support leg straight and kicking leg vertical above the head, one arm folded in guard. Resin in a mirror gold finish, on a trapezoid black base with bevelled edges.
What the photograph will not tell you: the figure is tall and narrow. At 30.5 cm / 12 in on an 8 cm / 3.1 in base, it wants a stable surface away from foot traffic — the raised foot is the most exposed part. The mirror finish reflects its surroundings: facing a window it takes daylight; against a pale wall it reads through its edges.

Buying tip: engrave before presentation night. Three short lines — club, category, date — read better than a long text shrunk to fit. Gold engraving on black stays legible at 2 m / 6 ft; white engraving carries further still.
One award range for a multi-discipline club
Many clubs run several sections under one roof: kickboxing, boxing, self-defence. Rewarding each section with the discipline actually practised counts for more than the size of the trophy. This figure covers taekwondo; the boxing sections find their equivalent in the same range of heights.
