Eight seconds in a final, at fifteen
In 1981, in the heavyweight final of the United States Junior Olympics, a fifteen year old put his opponent on the floor after eight seconds. Two hooks, and it was over before the referee had closed the distance. He won the tournament in 1981 and again in 1982.
A year later he lost the super heavyweight Golden Gloves final, then missed the 1984 Olympic team, beaten twice on points by Henry Tillman. He turned professional rather than wait for 1988. Five years after those eight seconds he was heavyweight champion of the world.
What you see
Portrait format, blood red ground worked in spatter and spray. The word IRON runs the full width across the top in massive black capitals, partly covered by the figures. Six versions of the boxer are layered over each other in desaturated tones: arms cocked, uppercuts, high guards, red and dark gloves.
In the foreground at the bottom, a torso face on, arms at his sides, looking to camera. A white handwritten signature crosses the chest on the diagonal. From 3 m / 10 ft you read a black word on red; from 1 m / 3 ft each figure in the montage separates.

Worth knowing: red covers the whole surface, so this canvas holds a wall on its own and sets the tone of a room. It gives its strongest contrast on a white, grey or concrete wall, where the splattered ground reads clearly against the plaster. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
A six-figure montage reads large
Six silhouettes overlap on the same surface: below 50 × 70 cm / 20 × 28 in they read as one red mass and the lettering carries the image alone. From 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in each figure separates from a sofa. The size chart by wall type covers the other placements room by room.

Frequently asked questions
What was Mike Tyson's fastest knockout?
As an amateur, eight seconds, in the 1981 United States Junior Olympics heavyweight final, at fifteen. As a professional his quickest finish was 30 seconds, against Marvis Frazier in 1986.
What size canvas should I hang above a sofa?
The working rule is about two thirds of the width of the furniture below it, centred 145 cm / 57 in from the floor. Over a 200 cm / 79 in three-seater, that means 80 × 120 cm / 31 × 47 in; over a two-seater, 60 × 90 cm / 24 × 35 in; in a hallway, 30 × 45 cm / 12 × 18 in. The full size chart by wall type is on the Ali vs Liston 1965 page.
How many figures are on this canvas?
Six layered versions of the same boxer, plus a torso in the foreground — arms cocked, uppercuts and high guards, all desaturated over the red ground.
Is the signature genuine?
No, it is reproduced as part of the printed image, not signed by hand. It is printed in white with the same pigment inks as the rest of the canvas.
Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
