The log cabin camp at Deer Lake
In 1972, Muhammad Ali built his training camp at Deer Lake, Pennsylvania: about fifteen log cabins on a wooded hill, a gym, a kitchen, and country roads all around. He prepared every one of his big 1970s fights there, Kinshasa and Manila included.
His father, a sign painter by trade, painted the names of former champions — Louis, Marciano, Liston, Frazier — on boulders set along the drive. Ali passed them every morning on his way out to run. The base work started at dawn, on the road, alone. That is the part of the job this canvas shows: not the ring, not the lights, the road.
What you see
Very elongated horizontal format, twice as wide as it is tall. The runner holds the centre, seen from behind, in a white shirt and pale trousers, on the hard shoulder of a country road. No face, no number, nothing that identifies him.
The white edge line and the solid yellow line cross the image on the diagonal; the setting is drowned in grey fog that erases the horizon and the trees behind. Keep going is set in widely spaced white capitals either side of the runner, at mid height. From 3 m / 10 ft you read a road and a word; from 1 m / 3 ft the texture of the fog appears.

Worth knowing: this is one of only three panoramic formats in the collection: the wide band covers a wall above a sofa or a desk without climbing the wall, where a portrait format would reach the ceiling. 110 × 220 cm / 43 × 87 in is. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes.
A band 2.20 m / 87 in wide
A 2:1 ratio changes the hanging rule: over a 200 cm / 79 in three-seater it is 100 × 200 cm / 39 × 79 in that covers the width, where a portrait canvas would stop at 80 cm / 31 in. Allow 60 × 120 cm / 24 × 47 in over a desk and 110 × 220 cm / 43 × 87 in, 2.42 m² / 26 sq ft, on a clear span. The size chart by wall type covers the other placements room by room.

Frequently asked questions
What size should I choose for a panoramic canvas?
Match the width of the furniture below rather than the height of the wall: 100 × 200 cm / 39 × 79 in over a three-seater, 60 × 120 cm / 24 × 47 in over a desk, 110 × 220 cm / 43 × 87 in on a clear span.
Where did Muhammad Ali train in the 1970s?
At Deer Lake, Pennsylvania, in a camp of log cabins he built in 1972. His father painted former champions' names on boulders along the drive, and Ali ran the surrounding country roads every morning.
What is?
110 × 220 cm / 43 × 87 in on this panoramic, or 2.42 m² / 26 sq ft in one piece — the largest size offered across all the canvases. On portrait formats the maximum is 110 × 160 cm / 43 × 63 in.
Does the canvas come with a frame?
No, the canvas ships on its own, rolled in a protective tube. Frames are sold separately: wooden frame up to 100 cm / 39 in per side, XXL wooden frame from 110 to 200 cm / 43 to 79 in, or aluminium frame in 8 finishes. The wooden kits are 2.5 cm / 1 in thick and come with instructions.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
