He came back to a ring at fifty-four
On 28 November 2020, in Los Angeles, Mike Tyson climbed through the ropes for the first time in fifteen years. Across from him was Roy Jones Jr, 51, a four-weight world champion. The bout was sanctioned as an exhibition: eight two-minute rounds, 12 oz gloves, no official scoring and no entry on either record. The California commission licensed it on those terms.
It was called a draw. Tyson weighed in at 100 kg / 220 lb, against 98 kg / 216 lb on the night he won the title in 1986. The portrait on this canvas belongs to that later period — the tattooed, weathered face of the man afterwards.
What you see
Portrait format, black ground. The face fills the upper two thirds, three quarter view, looking left, the tattoo around the left eye clearly drawn. The skin is worked in magenta, cyan, turquoise and yellow gradients, with no flesh tones at all. Two open triangles in pink and blue frame the head.
Below, his name in two parts: the first name in turquoise script, then the surname in pink and white volumetric capitals, in a 1980s poster style. From 3 m / 10 ft you read a coloured face on black; from 1 m / 3 ft each gradient separates.

Worth knowing: the black ground asks for a light wall so that the edge of the canvas stays visible. It is also one of the few pieces offered with the wooden frame already fitted — the canvas arrives stretched and ready to hang.
Twelve sizes, eleven of them ready framed
Eleven of the twelve sizes exist in a ready framed version; only 20 × 30 cm / 8 × 12 in ships rolled. The 13 × 18 cm / 5 × 7 in stands on a shelf or a desk, 50 × 70 cm / 20 × 28 in fills a pier between two doors, and 110 × 160 cm / 43 × 63 in holds a bare span. What are the triangles around the face?
Two open triangles in pink and blue — a graphic code borrowed from 1980s poster design, along with the volumetric lettering and the magenta and cyan gradients. They place the image in a period rather than referring to anything in the career.
Is the tattoo visible on this portrait?
Yes, the tribal design around the left eye is drawn in full. Tyson had it done in 2003, which dates the source photograph to the later part of his life rather than the title years.
How do I clean a canvas print?
A dry microfibre cloth handles almost everything. For a mark that stays, use a barely damp cloth with no detergent, wiping across the surface. No abrasive sponge, no glass cleaner.
