A boxing design almost always shows a glove, or a fist in profile mid-punch. Here the fist is bare and seen head on, knuckles towards you: that is the position of a hand in open-finger gloves, the MMA kind, which leave the fingers free to grip.
That single difference explains the whole discipline. MMA allows striking, takedowns and ground work — so the hand has to punch and grab, which a boxing glove makes impossible.
