The World Boxing Council was founded on 14 February 1963 in Mexico City, at the invitation of Mexican president Adolfo López Mateos, with eleven founding countries. Its green belt is reproduced here in close-up: the gold centrepiece and its ring of national flags, the medallions on the strap, the metallic grain of the WORLD CHAMPION lettering.
WBC green and gold
The World Boxing Council has sanctioned world title fights since 1963 and today counts more than 160 affiliated national federations. Its green and gold is the most recognisable colour code of the four major sanctioning bodies: at three metres / ten feet you see a green belt, at one metre / three feet you read the flags running around the plate.

Which insert to buy

Good to know before ordering
This is a cover, not a cushion. The parcel holds the printed cover on its own; inserts are sold in every home store for a few pounds.
The artwork is full bleed. WORLD and CHAMPION run off the left and right edges: that is the framing, chosen to zoom in on the plate. The crop shifts slightly from one size to the next.
The ground is light. Wide white and pale green areas surround the plate, which is what makes the gold read at the centre, and why the cover comes off and goes in the machine at 30 °C / 86 °F.
Printed on the front face. The reverse is plain, so the cover has a right side when several are lined up.

Is the cushion insert included?
No, the parcel holds the printed cover with its invisible zip. Buy an insert to the cover size, ideally 2 cm / 0.8 in larger, for a taut finish with square corners.
What does the green belt stand for?
It is the world championship belt of the World Boxing Council, founded on 14 February 1963 in Mexico City. The gold centrepiece is ringed with the flags of the affiliated national federations, with medallions set into the green strap.
Which size should I pick?
50 x 50 cm / 20 x 20 in suits this artwork best: every flag around the plate stays legible. 40 cm / 16 in fits an armchair, 30 cm / 12 in a desk chair, 60 and 65 cm / 24 and 26 in a corner sofa or a headboard.
Why is the lettering cut off at the sides?
The image is framed full bleed on purpose: the belt is shown very close up, which takes WORLD and CHAMPION past the edges. That is the intended result, not a printing error.
How do I wash it without damaging the print?
Machine wash at 30 °C / 86 °F, cover turned inside out, no tumble dryer and a detergent without optical brightener. That keeps the green dense and the gold plate bright wash after wash.
Is the WBC belt the same as the WBA or IBF belt?
No. Each of the four major sanctioning bodies awards its own belt, and the WBC one is the green and gold with the ring of national flags. A fighter holding all four at once is called undisputed.
