49 fights, 49 wins
On 27 April 1956, aged 31, Rocky Marciano announced his retirement with a record of 49 wins from 49 fights, 43 of them inside the distance. He remains the only world heavyweight champion to walk away undefeated.
Two gloves set down side by side is the picture of that decision. This trophy puts it at eye level on a shelf.
What you get
Two closed boxing gloves side by side in a copper finish, with ribbed silver cuffs and their hanging loops. They rest on an open barred panel in silver standing for the ropes and posts of a ring, scattered with five gold stars. Trapezoid base in black lacquer.
What a photograph will not tell you: the relief is deep. The folds of the moulded leather, the thumb seam and the ribbing of the cuffs are all felt under the fingers. The three tones work by contrast — copper on top, silver in the middle, black at the bottom. From 3 m / 10 ft the piece reads as three stacked bands; from 1 m / 3 ft each star separates from the open panel.

Buying tip: the stars and the ring bars are cut right through. In front of a light source or a pale wall the piece draws its own outlines; against a dark wall it reads as a solid mass. On a deep shelf, bring it 5 cm / 2 in forward so light passes behind it.
Team trophy or individual award
A two-glove trophy suits a pair or a group: a coach and fighter, a club, a show team. For a single winner, a single-glove trophy says the same thing more directly. Height settles the rest: 20 cm / 7.9 in is handed over and stored, 40 cm / 15.7 in holds the centre of the prize table.
