Eight stones, one per title win
On 18 January 2019, UFC presented a new championship belt to replace the one in use since 2001. The idea: eight stones border the plate, and every championship win turns one of them red, with the date and location engraved alongside.
The belt therefore records a career rather than a single title. That is what sets its design apart from every other combat sports belt.
The belt
Real black leather with an embossed octagon pattern along the whole strap. Octagon-shaped centre plate, raised polished gold UFC logo at its heart, ringed with white and red stones and silver facets. Either side, two gold octagonal medallions with the UFC logo. Octagonal snap studs for fastening.
What the photograph will not tell you: the strap pattern is raised, not printed. You feel it under your fingers and it takes light differently by angle, which gives the belt darker and lighter zones even though it is entirely black. 127 cm / 50 in long, about 2.7 kg / 6 lb.
Technical specifications
Buying tip: black on black disappears against a dark wall. For display, set the belt on a pale background or a light wood panel: contrast is what brings the embossed octagon pattern out, while the gold plate carries against any background.
