A one-night reign
On 21 August 2016 at SummerSlam, WWE put a brand-new title on the line: the Universal Championship. Finn Bálor won it, then vacated it the following day through injury — the shortest reign in the title's history.
The belt handed over that night was red, like this one. It is the title's original colour.
The belt
Real red leather, 3 mm thick. Gold centre plate on a red ground, large W set with white rhinestones, cabochon border and a black UNIVERSAL CHAMPION banner below. Each side carries a round medallion with the WWE logo on red and gold.
What the photograph will not tell you is the back, which is entirely black: it keeps the red leather off clothing and away from any colour transfer onto pale fabric. The belt closes on rows of gold snap studs, adjustable in steps. Laid out, it runs 127 cm / 50 in at about 2.7 kg / 6 lb.
Technical specifications
Buying tip: the red of the leather and the red of the plate ground are not at the same gloss level — the plate is lacquered, the strap is grained. Under frontal light the whole thing looks uniform; raking light brings up the grain and separates the plate from the strap.
Red or blue: what the colour says
The two straps mark two periods of the same title. Red is the original colour, from the 2016 creation and the reigns that followed on Raw. Blue matches the title's move to SmackDown. For a collector, the colour dates the piece; for a gift, it simply follows the taste of whoever receives it.
